How To Start The Engine
This engine was shipped from the factory without
oil. If you start the engine without oil, the engine
will be damaged beyond repair and will not be
covered under warranty.
CAUTION
Some engines may be equipped with OIL
GARD®.TheOIL GARD® is intended to warn
the operator that the engine is low on oil. Always
check oil level before starting. Engine damage
may occur if the oil level is not properly
maintained and will void warranty coverage. If
the engine will not start and/or has stopped
running, add oil (see “Check/Add Oil”
instructions).
CAUTION
1. Check the engine oil. See “Check/Add Oil” in the
Operation Section.
2. Turn the fuel shut-off valve (A), if equipped, to the
ON position (Figure 5).

To prevent damage to the rewind starting system,
do not allow the starter rope to snap back. Let the

Rapid retraction of starter cord
(kickback) will pull hand and arm t oward
engine faster than you can let go.
Broken bones, fractures, bruises or
sprains could result.
