2. ReleasetheowcontrolbailtotheCLOSEDposition

4. Pulltheowcontrolbailbackagainstthehandleto
theOPENpositiontostartspreading.Thehigherthe
settingnumber,thewidertheowplateinthebottom
ofthehopperwillopen.Theowplateshouldopen
abouthalfwaywiththedialsetat"5".SeeServiceand

1. Determineapproximatesquarefootageofareatobe
covered and estimate amount of material required.
2. Makesuretheowplateisclosed.
3. Fillthehopper,breakingupanylumpyfertilizer.
4. Settheowcontroldialwiththeowplateclosed.
Refertotheinstructionsonthefertilizerbagandto
theapplicationchartonthispagetoselecttheproper
owratesetting.Theapplicationchartiscalculated
forlighttoheavyapplicationataspeedof3mph,or
100ft.in23seconds.Avariationinspeedwillrequire
anadjustmentoftheowratetomaintainthesame
coverage.Thefasteryouwalk,thewiderthebroadcast
width.
5. Alwaysstartthespreaderinmotionbeforepullingback
thebailtoopentheowplate.
6. Alwaysreleasethebailtoclosetheowplatebefore
turningaroundorstoppingthespreader.
7. Iffertilizerisaccidentallydepositedtooheavilyina
smallarea,soaktheareathoroughlywithagarden
hoseorsprinklertopreventburningofthelawn.
8. Toinsureuniformcoverage,makeeachpasssothat
thebroadcastpatternslightlyoverlapsthepattern
fromthepreviouspassasshowningure12.The
approximatebroadcastwidthsfordifferentmaterials
areshownintheapplicationchartonthispage.
9. Whenbroadcastingweedcontrolfertilizers,make
surethebroadcastpatterndoesnothitevergreen
trees,owersorshrubs.Ifyourspreaderisequipped
withasidedeector,lowerittobroadcasttoonlyone
side of spreader.
10. Heavy moisture conditions may require use of a vinyl
hoppercovertokeepcontentsdry.Thecoveractsasa
