SAFETY RULES
IMPORTANT WARNINGS AND
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING:
When usi n g electric gardening appliances, basic safety precautions should always be
followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and serious injury. The warnings and

the unit. Read the entire instruction manual before assembling and using the unit! Re-
strict the use of this unit to persons who read, understand, and follow the warnings and
instructions in this manual and on the unit. Never allow children to use this unit. Close
attention is necessary when used near children.
OPERATOR SAFETY

protection w hen operating, ser vicing, or
perfor ming maintenance o n your unit.

vent rocks or debr is from being blown or
ricocheting into eyes and face which can
result in blindness or serious injury.

Always wear a respirator or face m ask
when w orking with the unit in dusty envi-
ronment s.

Dress safely in long pants. Do not go
barefoot o r wear s hort pants or sandals.

Do not operate t he unit when you are
tired, ill, upset, orif you are under theinflu-
ence of alcohol, drugs, or m edication.

Secure hairso it is above shoulderlength.
Keep loose hair , loose clothing, fingers,
and all other par ts of the body away from
openings and moving parts. Hair, jewelry,
loose clothing, or clothing with loosely
hanging straps, ties, tassels, et c., can be
caught in moving parts.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
WARNING:
Avoida dangerous en-
vironment. To reduce the risk of electrical
shock, do not use in rain, in damp or wet
locations, or around swimming pools, hot
tubs, etc. Do not expose to snow, rain, or
water to avoid the possibility of electrical
shock. Do not handle extension cord plug
or unit with wet hands.

Use only a voltage supply as shown on the
nameplate of the unit.

avoid creating a fire or exp losion and/or
causing damage to unit.

To r educe the risk of electrical shock, use
extension cords specifically mark ed as
suitable f or outdoor appliances. The
electr ical rating of t he cord must behigher
than the rating of t he unit. The cord must
be marked with the suff ix “W- A” (in Cana-
da, “W”) . Make sure your ext ension cor d
is in good condition. Inspect extension
cord befor e use and replace if damaged.
An undersized extension cord will cause
a drop in line vo ltage resulting in loss of
power and overheating. I f in doubt, use
the next heavier gauge. The smaller the
gauge num ber, the hea vier t he cord.

Inspect t he insulation and connectors on
the unit and extension cord bef or e each
use. If t her e is any dam age, do not use
until damage is r epaired by your autho-
rized service dealer . Do not pull or carry
by cord; do not use cor d as a handle,
close a door on cord, or pull cord ar ound
sharp edges or corners. Keep cord away
from heated sur faces. Do not unplug by

Tie c ord to cord retainer a nd c onnect to
recessed plug as shown in this manual to
prevent dam age to unit and/or extension
cord and to r educe t he po ssibility of t he
extension cord disconnecting from t he
unit during operation.

turn the unit on and off pr operly. Have the
unit repaired by an authorized service
dealer.
