ON/OFF SWITCH
The O N /OFF switch is l ocated on the trigger
handle andis usedto st opthe engi ne. Movethe
switch to the OFF position to stop the engine.
PRIMER BULB
The PRIMER BULB removes airfrom thecar-
buretor and fuel lines and fills them with fuel.
This allows you to start the engine with fewer
pulls on the starter rope. Activate the primer
bulb by pressing it and allowing it to return to
its original form.
CHOKE
The CH OKE helps to supply fuel to the engine
to aid i n cold star tin g . Activate the cho ke by
moving the choke lever t o the F ULL CH O KE
position. Aftertheengineattempts tostart, m ove
the c hoke lever to the HALF CHOKE position.
Once engine hasstarted, movethe chokelever
to the OFF CH O KE position.
COUPLER
The COUPLER enables optional attach-
ments to be installed on the unit.
CHAIN TENSION
It is normal for a new chain to stretch during
first 15 minutes of operation. You should
check your chain tension frequently. See
CHAIN TENSION in the SERVICE ANDA D-
JUSTMENTS section.
BEFORE STARTING ENGINE
WARNING:
Be sure to read the fuel
information in the safety rules before you be-
gin. If you do not understand the safety rules,
do not attempt to fuel your unit. Call
1-800-554-6723.
FUELING ENGINE
WARNING:
Remove fuel cap slowly
when refueling.
This engine is certified to operate on
unleaded gasoline. Before operation,
gasoline must be mixed with a good quality
synthetic 2-cycle air-cooled engine oil
designed to be mixed at a ratio of 40:1.
Poulan/Weed Eater brand synthetic oil is
recommended. Mix gasoline and oil at a ratio
of 40:1. A 40:1 ratio is obtained by mixing 3.2
ounces (95 ml) of oil with 1 gallon (4 liters) of
unleaded gasoline. DONOTUSEautomotive
oil or boat oil. These oils will cause engine
damage. When mixing fuel, follow
instructions printed on container.
Once oil is added to gasoline, shake container
momentarily t oassure that t hefuel i sthoroughly
mixed. Always read and follow the safety rules
relating to fuel before fueling your unit.
BAR AND CHAIN LUBRICATION
The barandchainrequire lubr ication. Thechain
oiler p r ovides cont inuouslubricationto thechain
and guide bar. Be sur e to f ill the bar oil tank
when youfill the f uel t ank(Capacity =4.6 f l.oz.).
Lack of o il will qui ckly r uin the bar and chain.
To o little oil will cause over heating shown by
smoke coming from the chain and/or discolor-
ation of the bar . The oil output is automatically
metered during operation. Always fill the bar oil
tank when you fill the fuel tank.
