CLEAN AIR FILTER
A dirty air filter decr eases engine perform-
ance and increases fuel consumption and
harmful emissions. Always clean or replace
air filter after every 5 hours of operation or
yearly, whichever co mes first.

Cleaning the air filter:
1. Clean the cover and the a rea around it to
keep debris from fallinginto the carburetor
chamber when the cover is removed.
NOTE: Move choke lever to RUN position
before opening air f ilter co ver.
2. Open air filter cover by pushing button
(see illustration). Remove air filter.
NOTE: Do not clean filter in gasoline or other
flammable solvent. Doi ng so ca n cr eate a fire
hazard or pr oduce harmfu l evaporative emis-
sions.
3. Wash the filter in soap and water.
4. Allow filter to dry.
5. Apply a few drops of oil to the filter;
squeeze filter to distribute oil.
6. Replace parts.
REPLACE SPARK PLUG
Replace spar k plug each year to e nsure the
engine starts easier and runs better. Set
spark plug gap at 0.025 inch (0.6 mm). Igni-
tion timing is fixed, nonadjustable.
NOTE: This spar k ignition system co mplies
with the Canadian st andard ICES--002.
1. Twist, then pull of f spark plug boo t.
2. Removespa rk plug from cylinder anddis-
card.
3. Replace with Champion RCJ-6Y spark
plug and tighten secu rely with a 3/4 inch
(19 m m) socket wrench.
4. Reinstall the spark plug boot.
REPLACE FUEL FILTER
Toreplacefuel filt er,drain unitby runningit dry
of fuel, then remove fuel cap/retainer assem-
bly from tank. Pull filter from t a nk andremove
it fr omthe fuelline. Installnew f uelfilteronfuel
line; reinstall parts.

CHECK MUFFLER MOUNTING
SCREWS
Once each year, ensur e muffler mounting
screws are tightened securely to prevent
damage.

ON THIS UNIT IS NO T SER VICEABLE.
For normal homeowner use, the muf fler and
spark arrestin g scr een will not require replace-
men t. After 50 hours of use, we recommend
that your muffler be replaced by yo ur authorized
service dealer .
CARBURETOR IDLE SPEED
ADJUSTMENT
The carburetor has been carefully set at the
factory.Adjustm ents may benecessary ifyou
notice any of the f ollowing condit ions:
S En gine will not idle when the throt tle is re-
leased .
To adjust idle speed:
Allow engineto idle.Adjustspeed untilengine
runs without stalling (idle speed too slow) .
S Turn idle speed screw clockwise to in-
creaseenginespeedif enginestalls ordies.
S Turn idle speedscrew counterclockwise to
decrease engine speed.
