ATTACHING THE BAR & CHAIN
(If not already attached)
WARNING: Recheck each assem-
blystepifthesawisreceivedassembled.Al-
ways wear gloves whenhandling the chain.
The chain is sharp and can cut you even
when it is not moving!
1. Loosenandrem ovebark nobcompletely
by liftinglever and turning counterclock-
wise.
LOOSEN
2. Removeclutchcover.Removethe plas-
tic shipping spacer (if p resent).
3. Slide guide bar on bar bolts until guide
bar stops against clutch drum sprocket.
4. Carefully remove the chain from thepack-
age. Hold chain with the drive links as
sho wn .

5. Place chain over and behind clutch re-
tainer, fitting the drive links in the clutch
drumsprocket.
6. Fit bottom of drive links between the
teeth in the sprocket in the nose of the
guide bar.
7. Fit chain drive links into bar groove.
8. Pullguide barforwarduntilchainis snug
inguidebargroove.Ensurealldrivelinks
are in t he bar groove.
9. Installclutchcover.Besureadjustingpinis
in the adjusting pin hole in the guide bar.
CAUTION: It is very important when instal-
ling the clutch cover th at the adjusting pin
aligns in tothe adj ustingpinholeinthebar .Fail-
ure to i nstall the clutch cover correctly may re-
sult in permanent dam age to your chain saw.

10. Install bar knob and finger tighten only.
Do not tighten any further at this point.
Once the chain is tensioned, you will
need to t ighten the bar knob.
CHAIN TENSION (Including units
with chain already installed)
NOTE
: When adjusting chain tension,
make sure thebar knob isloosened1 ½ -- 2
turns. Attemptingto tension thechainwhen
the bar knob is tight can cause damage.
Checking the tension:
Useascrewdrivertomovechain ar oundguide
bar . I f t he chaindoes n ot rotate, it istoo tight. If
too loose, the chain will sag below the bar.

Adjusting the tension:
Chain tension is very important. Chain
stretches during use. This is especially true
during the first few times you use your saw.
Always check chain tension each time you
use and refuel your saw.
1. Lift lever on bar knob and turn counter-
clo ckwise 1 ½ -- 2 turns to loosen clutch
cove r.
LOOSEN
2. Turn adjusting wheel (downward direc-
tion) to tension chain until chain solidly
contacts bottom of guide bar rail. Lift tip
of guide bar w hile adjus ting t ension.
