4. Use a clean, lint-free rag to wipe the oil lter port ange surface clean where the oil lter gasket seats.
5. To help seal the new oil lter to the oil port ange, apply a light coat of white lithium NLGI Number 2 grease
(Dow Corning
®
BR2-Plus or equivalent) or new engine oil to the rubber seal around the outside surface of the
lter before attaching it to the oil lter port (Figure 19). Install the new oil lter onto the engine oil lter port.

NOTE: Use only engine-compatible oil lters designed for your engine.
6. Tighten the oil lter by hand 2/3 turn after gasket contact. Do not use a band wrench or channel lock pliers.
