Neverstorelawntractorwithfuel intankindoorsorin poorly
ventilatedareaswherefuel fumesmayreachan openflame,spark,
orpilot lightasona furnace,waterheater,clothesdryer,or gas
appliance.
PREPARING THE ENGINE
IMPORTANT:Fuelleftin thefuel tankduringwarmweatherdeterio-
ratesandwill causeseriousstartingproblems.
To preventgumdepositsfromforminginsidethe engine'scarburetor
andcausingpossiblemalfunctionof theengine,thefuelsystemmust
be eithercompletelyemptied,orthe gasolinemustbe treatedwitha
stabilizertopreventdeterioration.
1. Ifusingafuel stabilizer:
a. Readtheproductmanufacturer'sinstructionsandrecom-
mendations.
b. Addto clean,freshgasolinethecorrectamountof stabilizer
for thecapacityof thefuelsystem.
c. Fillthefueltankwithtreatedfuel andrunthe enginefor 2-3
minutestogetstabilizedfuel intothecarburetor.
2. Ifemptyingthefuelsystem:
a. Donotdrainfuel whentheengineis hot.Allowtheengine
adequatetimeto cool.Drainfuelintoanapprovedcontainer
outdoors,awayfromopenflame.
b. Drainany largevolumeof fuel fromthetank bydisconnect-
ing thefuellinefromthe in-linefuelfilternearthe engine.

Gasolineisextremelyflammableandcanbeexplosiveundercertain
conditions.Draingasolinebeforestoringthe equipmentforextended
periods.Drainfuelonlyintoanapprovedcontaineroutdoors,away
froman openflame.Allowengineto cool.Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars,pipes,andothersourcesofignitionpriorto drainingfuel.
Storegasolineinan approvedcontainerinsafelocation.
c. Reconnectthe fuel lineandrunthe engineuntilit startsto
falter,thenuse thechoketo keeptheenginerunninguntilall
fuel in thecarburetorhasbeenexhausted.
d. Disconnectthefuellineanddrainany remaininggasoline
fromthe system.
DRAiNiNG THE FUEL
1. Locatethefuelfilter,whichis locatedonthe leftsideof the
engine,andmaybe attachedtothe enginewitha tie strap.
2. Cutthe tiestrap,if present,thenpinchthe in-lineclamponthe
fuel filterwitha pairof pliers,slidetheclampupthe fuel line.
3. Pullthe fuellinefreefromthe filterandplacetheopenendof the
lineintoanapprovedcontainerto drainthe fuel.
PREPARING THE LAWN TRACTOR
1. Cleanandlubricatetractorthoroughlyasdescribedinthe lubrica-
tion instructions.
2. Donotusea pressurewasheror gardenhosetocleanyour unit.
3. Storemowerin a dry,cleanarea. Donotstorenextto corrosive
materials,suchas fertilizer.
Gasolineisa toxicsubstance.Disposeof gasolineproperly.Contact
your localauthoritiesfor approveddisposalmethods.
3. Removethe sparkplugandpourone(1)ounceof engineoil
throughthesparkplugholeintothecylinder.Cranktheengine
severaltimestodistributethe oil.Replacethe sparkplug.
