Attaching the Battery Cables

Batteryposts,terminals,andrelatedaccessoriescontainleadand
leadcompounds,chemicalsknowntothe Stateof Californiato
causecancerandreproductiveharm.Washhandsafterhandling.
Whenattachingbatterycables,alwaysconnectthePOSITIVE(Red)
wiretoits terminalfirst,followedby theNEGATIVE(Black)wire.
Forshippingreasons,bothbatterycablesonyourequipmenthave
beenleftdisconnectedfromthe terminalsat thefactory.Toconnect
the batterycables,proceedasfollows:
NOTE:ThepositivebatteryterminalismarkedPos.(+).The negative
batteryterminalis markedNeg.(-).
1. Removethe plasticcover,if present,fromthe positivebattery
terminaland attachthe redcableto thepositivebatteryterminal
(+)withthe boltandhexnut.See Figure1.
2. Removethe plasticcover,if present,fromthe negativebattery
terminaland attachthe blackcabletothenegativebattery
terminal(-) withthe boltandhex nut.SeeFigure1.

Shipping Brace Removal
Makesuretheridingmower'sengineis off,removetheignitionkey,
andset the parkingbrakebeforeremovingthe shippingbrace.Refer
Itothe Operationsectionforinstructionsonhowto setthe parking
lbrake.
• Locatethe shippingbrace,if present,andaccompanyingwarning
tag foundonthe rightsideof themower,betweenthe discharge
chutedeflectorandthe cuttingdeck. SeeFig.2.

Whilepushingthedischargechuteddlectortowardsthemachinewith
yourlefthand,removetheshippingbracewithyourrighthandbygrasp-
ingitbetweenyourthumbandindexfingerandrotatingitclockwise.
The shippingbrace,usedfor packagingpurposesonly,mustbe
removedand discardedbeforeoperatingyour ridingmower.
The mowingdeck iscapableofthrowingobjects.Failureto operate
the ridingmowerwithoutthedischargecoverin the properoperating
Ipositioncouldresultin seriouspersonalinjuryand/orproperty
ldamage.
Attaching The Steering Wheel
Ifthe steeringwheelfor yourtractordid notcomeattached,the
hardwareforattachingit has beenpackedwithinthe steeringwheel,
beneaththesteeringwheelcap.Carefullypry off the steeringwheel
cap andremovethe hardware.
1. Withthe wheelsof the tractorpointingstraightforward,placethe
steeringwheeloverthe steeringshaft.
2. Placethe washer(withthe cuppedsidedown)overthesteering
wheeland securewiththe hex bolt.SeeFig.3.
