the possibilityofflippingthe tractoroverbackward.
ENGAGING THE BLADES
EngagingthePTO(BladeEngage)transferspowertothe cuttingdeck
orother (separatelyavailable)attachments.Toengagethe blades,
proceedasfollows:
1. Movethe throttle/chokecontrolleverto the FAST(rabbit)position.
2. Graspthe PTO(BladeEngage)leverandpivotit all the way
forwardintotheengaged(ON)position.
3. Keepthe throttleleverinthe FAST(rabbit)positionforthemost
efficientuseof thecuttingdeckor other(separatelyavailable)
attachments.
iMPORTANT: Inthe ReverseCautionModetheenginewill auto-
maticallyshutoff ifthePTOisengagedwiththe speedcontrollever
inpositionfor reversetravelwiththe ignitionkeyinthe NORMAL
MOWINGposition.
USING THE DECK LIFT LEVER
Toraisethe cuttingdeck,movethe decklift levertothe left,thenplace
itin the notchbestsuitedfor yourapplication.Referto SettingThe
CuttingHeightearlierinthis section.
MOWING
Tohelpavoidbladecontactor a thrownobjectinjury,keepbystand-
ers,helpers,childrenandpetsat least75feetfromthe machine
whileitis inoperation.Stop machineifanyoneentersthearea.
Thefollowinginformationwill behelpfulwhenusingthe cuttingdeck
withyourtractor:
Planyour mowingpatternto avoiddischargeof materialstoward
roads,sidewalks,bystandersandthe like.Also,avoiddischarging
materialagainsta wallor obstructionwhichmaycausedischarged
materialto ricochetbacktowardthe operator.
• Do not mowathighgroundspeed,especiallyifa mulchkitor
grasscollectorisinstalled.
• For bestresultsitis recommendedthatthe firsttwolaps becut
withthe dischargethrowntowardsthecenter.Afterthe first two
laps,reversethe directionto throwthedischargeto the outside
for thebalanceof cutting.Thiswill givea betterappearanceto the
lawn.
• Do notcut thegrasstoo short.Shortgrassinvitesweedgrowth
andyellowsquicklyindry weather.
• Mowingshouldalwaysbedonewiththe engineatfull throttle.
• Underheavierconditionsit maybenecessaryto go backoverthe
cutareaa secondtimeto geta cleancut.
• Do NOTattemptto mowheavybrushandweedsandextremely
tall grass.Yourtractorisdesignedto mowlawns,NOTclear
brush.
• Keepthe bladessharpandreplacethe bladeswhenworn.Refer
to CuttingBladesin the ServiceandMaintenencesectionofthis
manualforproperbladesharpeninginstructions.

MOVING THE TRACTOR MANUALLY
Yourtractor'stransmissionis equippedwitha hydrostaticreliefvalve
for occasionswhenit is necessaryto movethetractormanually.
Activatingthisvalveforcesthe fluidin thetransmissionto bypassits
normalroute,allowingthe reartiresto "freewheel."Toengagethe
hydrostaticreliefvalve,proceedas follows:
1. Locatethe hydrostaticbypassrodinthe rearof the tractor.See
Fig.10.

2. Pullthe hydrostaticbypassrodoutward,thendownandto theleft,
to lockit in place.
NOTE: Thetransmissionwill NOTengagewhenthehydrostatic
bypassrodis pulledout. Returnthe rodto itsnormalpositionpriorto
operatingthetractor.
iMPORTANT: Neverattempttomovethe tractormanuallywithout
first engagingthehydrostaticreliefvalve.Doingso will resultinserious
damageto thetractor'stransmission.
HEADLIGHTS
• Thelampsare ONwheneverthetractor'sengineis running.
• Thelampsturn OFFwhentheignitionkeyismovedto the STOP
position.
