STARTING THE ENGINE
Do notoperatethe tractorifthe interlocksystemismalfunctioning.
Thissystemwasdesignedfor your safetyandprotection.
NOTE: Referto theGasolineand Oilfill-upinstructionsearlierinthis
section.
1. Insertthe tractorkeyintothe ignitionswitch.
2. Placethe PTO(BladeEngage)leverinthe disengaged(OFF)
position.
3. Engagethe tractor'sparkingbrake.
4. Activatethe chokecontrolby movingthethrottle/chokeleverall
thewayup intothechokeposition.
5. Turnthe ignitionkeyclockwisetothe STARTposition.Afterthe
enginestarts,releasethe key.It will returntothe ON (orNormal
Mowing)position.
DO NOTholdthe keyinthe STARTpositionforlongerthanten
secondsata time.Doingsomaycausedamageto yourengine's
electricstarter.
6. Afterthe enginestarts,deactivatethe chokecontroland placethe
throttlecontrolinthe FASTposition.
NOTE: Do NOTleavethechokecontrolonwhileoperatingthetractor.
Doingsowill resultina "rich"fuel mixtureandcausethe engineto run
poorly.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
If youstrikea foreignobject,stopthe engine,disconnectthespark
plugwire(s)andgroundagainstthe engine.Thoroughlyinspectthe
machineforanydamage.Repairthe damagebeforerestartingand
operating
1. Ifthe bladesareengaged,placethePTO(BladeEngage)leverin
thedisengaged(OFF)position.
2. Turnthe ignitionkeycounterclockwisetotheSTOPposition.
3. Removethe keyfromthe ignitionswitchto preventunintended
starting.
DRIVING THE TRACTOR
Avoidsuddenstarts,excessivespeedandsuddenstops.
Do notleavethe seatof thetractorwithoutfirstplacingthe PTO
(BladeEngage)leverinthe disengaged(OFF)position,depressing
I thebrakepedalandengagingthe parkingbrake.Ifleavingthetractor
unattended,alsoturnthe ignitionkeyoffand removethe key.
Alwayslookdownandbehindbeforeandwhilebackingupto avoida
back-overaccident.
1. Movethethrottleleverintothe FAST(rabbit)position.
NOTE: Alwaysoperatethe tractorwiththethrottle/chokecontrollever
in the FAST(rabbit)positionfor the mostefficientuseof the cutting
deckor other(separatelyavailable)attachments.
2. Releasetheparkingbrakebydepressingthe brakepedal
3. Positionthespeedcontrolleverindesiredposition.Thefurther
forwardor rearwardthatthe leverismoved,thefasterthetractor
will travel.
DoNOTattemptto changethedirectionof travelwhenthetractor
is inmotion.Alwaysbringthetractorto a completestopbefore
movingthe speedcontrolleverfromforwardto reverseorvice versa.
Failureto doso couldresultinseriousdamageto yourtractor's
transmission.
iMPORTANT: First-timeoperatorsshoulduseslowerspeeds.
Becomecompletelyfamiliarwiththetractor'soperationandcontrols
beforeoperatingthetractorinathigherspeed.
4. The lawntractorisbroughttoa stopby depressingthebrake
pedal.
5. Set the parkingbrakeby fullydepressingthe brakepedaland
keepingitdepressedwhileplacingthe parkingbrakeleverinthe
ON position.Releasethe brakepedalto allowtheparkingbrake
to engage.
Beforeleavingthe operator'spositionfor any reason,disengagethe
blades,placethespeedcontrolleverin neutral,engagetheparking
brake,shutengineoff andremovethe key.
Mowupanddown slopes,NEVERacross.
Exerciseextremecautionwhenchangingdirectionon slopes.
Watchfor holes,ruts,bumps,rocks,orother hiddenobjects.
Uneventerraincouldoverturnthe machine.Tallgrasscan hide
obstacles.
Avoidturnswhendrivingon a slope.If a turnmustbe made,turn
downtheslope.Turningupa slopegreatlyincreasesthe chance
of a rollover.
iMPORTANT: Whenstoppingthe tractorforany reasonwhileona
grasssurface,always:
1. Placethe speedcontrolleverin N (neutral),
2. Engagetheparkingbrake,
3. Shutengineoffand removethe key.
Doingsowillminimizethe possibilityof havingyourlawn"browned"by
hot exhaustfromyourtractor'srunningengine.
DRIVING ON SLOPES
Referto theSLOPEGAUGEinthe ImportantSafeOperationPractices
sectionofthe manualtohelpdetermineslopeswhereyoumayoperate
the tractorsafely.
Donotmowon inclineswitha slopeinexcessof 15degrees(a rise
of approximately2-1/2feetevery10feet).Thetractorcouldoverturn
andcauseseriousinjury.
