Step 4 Obtain a new port service number so that the database access server can
listen for client requests.
The default port number for all Database Administration products is
1313. The network administrator or system administrator may have to
assign the port number.
The /
etc/services file defines the port services for client requests. BMC
Software recommends that you add the following line to the /
etc/services
file to assign port service aliases:
BMCTCP 1313/tcp
Step 5 To ensure that the network is working properly:
Type
ping host_name, where host_name is the name of the Unix server on
which you are installing the product.
Note
If the ping command returns an error message, a network problem exists.
You can continue with the installation. However, you will have to resolve
this issue before starting the PATROL Database Administration server.
Notify the system administrator of this problem immediately.
Step 6 Determine whether any of the previous BMC Software products that are
shown in Table 2-1 have been installed. To do this, log on as any user and
type the following commands to verify that the product exists.
