TROUBLESHOOTING
MOWING CONDITIONS
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE SOLUTION
Grass cut lower in center of
swath than at edge
Height of cutter lower at rear or
front
Adjust cutter height and attitude so
that cutter rear and front are within
1/2" of same height. See Cutting
Height Adjustment (Mounted Cut-
ter), page 16.
Streaking conditions in swath Conditions too wet for mowing Allow grass to dry before mowing.
Blades unable to cut that part of
grass pressed by path of tractor
tires
Slow ground speed of tractor but
keep engine running at full PTO
rpm. Cutting lower will help.
Dull blades Sharpen or replace blades.
Material discharges from cutter
unevenly; bunches of material
along swath
Material too high and too much
material
Reduce ground speed but main-
tain 540 rpm at tractor PTO or
make two passes over material.
Raise cutter for the first pass and
lower to desired height for the sec-
ond and cut at 90° to first pass.
Raise rear of cutter high enough to
permit material to discharge but
not so high to cause conditions
listed above.
Grass wet Allow grass to dry before mowing.
Slow ground speed of tractor but
keep engine running at full PTO
rpm. Cutting lower will help.
Rear of cutter too low, trapping
material under cutter
Adjust cutter height and attitude.
Cutter will not cut all the time
(Slip clutch drive only)
Slip clutch slipping Adjust slip clutch according to
instructions in SLIP CLUTCH
adjustment, page 22.
