UNIT / MAINTENANCE SAFETY

plug before performing maintenance except
carburetor adjustments.
S Look for and replace damaged or loose parts
before each use. Look for and repair fuel
leaks before use . Keep in good worki ng
conditio n.
S Repl ace tri mmer head partstha t are chipped,
cra cked, broken, or damaged in any other
way before using the unit.
S Maintain unit accor ding to recommended pro-
cedure s. Keep cutting line at proper length.
S Use only 0.080 (2 mm) diam eter WEE D
EATER brand line. Neve r use wire, rope,
string, etc.
S Install required shield properl y before using
the unit. Use only speci fied trimmer head;
make sureit is properly inst alled and secure ly
fastene d.
S Make sure uni t is assem b l e d correct l y as
shown in this manual.
S Make ca rburetor adjustments with lower end
support ed to prevent line from cont acting any
object.
S Keep others away when making carburet or
adjustm ents.
S Use only re commended WEED EATER ac-
cessories and replacement par ts.
S Have all m aintenance and service not ex-
plained in t his manual performed b y anautho-
rize d servi ce dealer.
FUEL SAFETY
S Mix and pour fuel outdoors.
S Keep away fr om sparks or flames.
S Use a co ntainer approve d for fuel.
S Do not smoke or allow smoking near fuel or
the unit.
S Avoid spillin g fuelor oil. Wipe up all fuel spills.
S Move at least 10 feet (3 m eters) awa y fr om
fueling site before st arting engine.
S Stop engine and allow to cool before remov-
ing fuel cap.
S Alwa ys store gasoline in a co ntainer ap-
proved for flammable liquids.
CUTTING SAFETY
WARNING: Inspect the area before
each use. Remove objects (rocks, broken
glass, nails, wir e, etc.) which can be thrown
by or become entangled in line. Hard objects
can damage the trimmer head and bethrown
causing serious injury.
S Keep others including childr en, animals,
bystanders,and helpersat least 50feet (15
meters)awa y.Bystanders should b eencour-
aged to wear sa fety glasses. Stop engine
immediately if you are approached.
S Use only for trim mi ng, scalping, mowing and
swee ping. Do not use for edging, pruning or
hedge trimming.
S Keep f irm foot ing and balance. Do not ove r-
reach.
S Keep all p arts ofyour body away fro m m uffler
and spinning line. Keep engine be low waist
level. A hot muffler can cause ser ious burns.
S Cut from your right to your left . Cutting on l eft
side of the shield will throw debris away from
the o perator.
S Use only in daylight or good art ifici al light.
S Use only for jobs explained in this manual.
TRANSPORTING AND STORAGE
S Allo w e ngine to cool; se cure unit before stor-
ing or transpor ting in vehicl e.
S Empty the fuel tank before storing or trans-
porting the unit. Use upfuel leftin the carbure-
tor by start ing the engi ne and letting it run u ntil
it stops.
S Stor e unit and fuel in area where fuel vapors
cannot reachsp arks o r open fl ames from wa-
ter heate rs, electric motors or switches, fur-
naces, e tc.
S Stor eunitsoline limit er bladecannotacciden-
tally cause i njury. T he unit can behung by the
shaft.
S Stor e unit out of reach of children.
