OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
It is recommended that the engine not be
operated for longer than 1 minute at full
throttle.
OPERATING POSITION
Cut from your right to your left.
ALWAYS WEAR:
Eye protection
Long pants
Heavy s hoes
W ARNING:
Alwaysweareyeprotec-
tion. Never lean over the trimmer head.
Rocks ordebriscanricochetorbethrowninto
eyes and face and cause blindness or other
serious injury.
Do not run the engine at a higher sp eed than
n ece ssar y. Th e cut t ing line w ill cut efficient ly
when the engine is run at less than full throttle.
At lower speeds, there is less engine noise and
vibration .Thecuttin glinewill last longeran dwill
be less likely to “weld” o nto t he spool.
Always release thethrottle trigger a nd allow the
eng ine to r etu rn to id le spe ed when not cutting.
To stop engine:

Release the throttle trigger.
S
Push and hold the STOP switch in the
STOP position until theengine stops.
TRIMMER LINE ADVANCE
Thetrimmerlinewill advanceapproximately2
inches (5 cm) each t ime the bottom of the
trimmerheadistappedonthegroundwiththe
engine running at full throttle.
The most eff icient line length i s the maximu m
le ngth a llowed by the line limiter.Alw ays keep
the shield in p lace when the to ol is b e ing ope r-
ated.
To advance line:
S
Operate the engine at full throttle.
S
Holdthetrimmerheadparalleltoandabov e
the grassy area.
S
Tap t he bottom of the trimmer head lightly
on the ground one time. Approximately 2
inches (5cm) of line will be advancedwith
each tap.
Always tap the trimmer head on a grassy
area. Tapping on surfaces such as concrete
or asphalt can cause e xcessive wear to the
trimmer head.
If the line is worn down to 2 inches (5 cm) or
less,morethanonetapwillberequiredtoob-
tain the most e fficient l ine length.
W ARNING:
Use only 0.080
!
(2mm)
diameter line. Other sizes of line will not ad-
vanceproperlyandwill resultinimpropercut-
tingheadfunctionorcancauseseriousinjury.
Do not use other materials such as wire,
string, rope, etc. Wire can break off during
cutting andbecome adangerousmissile that
can cause serious injury .
CUTTING METHODS
W ARNING:
Use minimum speed
anddonotcrowdthel inewhencuttingaround
hardobjects (rock, gravel, fence posts,etc.),
whichcandamagethetrimmerhead,become
entangled in the line, or be thrown causing a
serious haz ard.

The tip of theline does the cutting. You will
achieve the best performance and mini-
mum line wearby notcrowdingthe lineinto
the cutting area.The right andwrongways

The line will easily remove grass and
weedsfromaroundwalls,fences,treesand
flower beds, but i t also can cut the tender
bark oftrees orshrubs andscar fences. To
help avoid damage especially to del icate
vegetation or trees with tender bark,
shorten line to 4--5 inches (10--13 cm) and
use at less than full throttle.

head wear, especially:

During light dutycutting.

wire.

TRIMMING
-- Hold the bottom of thetrimmer
headabout3inches(8cm) abovetheground
andatanangle.Allowonlythetipofthelineto
make contact. Do not force trimmer line into
work ar ea.

-- The scalping technique re-
moves unwanted vegetationdown to the
ground. Hold the bottom of the trimmer head
about 3 inches (8 cm) above the groundand
atanangle.Allowthetipofthelinetostrikethe
groundaroundtrees,posts, monuments,etc.
This tec hniqueincreases line wear.
