BATTERY SERVICE
BATTERY RECHARGING
The battery should be recharged before
storing the unit for more than three (3)
weeks. It should also be recharged after
bringing it out of storage.
The engine must be stopped and the area in
which recharging will take place must be
dry.
1. Connect the terminal (A, Figure 5-14)
on the supplied battery charger to the
recharging line receptacle (B) on the
keyswitch wiring harness.
2. Plug the charger box (C, Figure 5-14)
into a grounded, 120V wall outlet. Charge
the battery for 24 hours. After charging,
unplug the charger box (C) from the wall
outlet and the disconnect the terminal (A)
from the receptacle (B).
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
If the battery no longer takes a charge, or if
it is damaged, it must be replaced.
1. Tilt the debris shield forward.
2. First disconnect the negative (–) black
wire from the battery terminal. Next dis-
connect the positive (+) red wire from the
battery terminal. NOTE: The plastic recep-
tacles (E and F, Figure 5-15) do not need
to be disconnected.
3. Remove the front screw (D, Figure 5-
15) from the battery clamp and remove
the battery. Discard the battery according
to battery disposal regulations in your
area.
4. Place the new battery under the clamp
as shown in Figure 5-15. Replace the
clamp screw (D).

to the positive (+) red-marked battery ter-
minal. Next connect the negative (–) black
wire to the negative (–) black-marked bat-
tery terminal.
6. Close the debris shield.
• Wet conditions can cause an electric
shock hazard during battery charging.
Avoid wet conditions when charging
battery.
• Charging the battery with improper
equipment could cause a battery explo-
sion. Use only the battery charger sup-
plied with the unit. The engine must be
shut off and the spark plug wire discon-
nected before charging the battery.
Failure to comply could result in
personal injury or property damage.
