Mufer and spark arrester maintenance
IMPORTANT!
If you note excessive carbon buildup, consult with an authorized Shindaiwa servicing dealer.
If the engine becomes sluggish and low on power, check and clean the spark arrester screen.
1. Remove the spark plug boot.
2. With a 4mm hex wrench remove the 1 mufer cover and 3 engine cover screws and the engine cover. The mufer cover is
attached to the engine cover at the top and front by tabs. To remove push inward at arrow area while pulling outward. See
insert image.
3. With a Phillips type screwdriver remove the 5 screws holding the spark arrester screen and cover to the mufer.
4. Remove the screen and clean it with a stiff bristle brush.
5. Remove the 3 mufer bolts and the mufer.
6. Inspect the cylinder exhaust port for any carbon buildup.
7. Gently tap the mufer on a wood surface to dislodge any loose carbon.
8. Reassemble the spark arrester, mufer and engine cover in the reverse order of disassembly.
WARNING!
Never operate the unit with a damage or missing mufer or spark arrester! Operating with a missing or damaged spark
arrester is a re hazard and could also damage your hearing.
