SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS
TO ADJUST BRAKE (See Fig. 23)
Your tractor is equipped with an adjustable brake system
which ismounted on the side of the transaxle.
Iftractor requiresmore than six (6) feet stopping distance at
high speed inhighest gear on a level dryconcrete or paved
surface, then brake must be adjusted.
• Depress clutch/brake pedal and engage parkingbrake.
• Measure distancepetween brakeoperating arrnand nut
"A" on brake rod.
• Ifdistance isotherthan 1-9/16", loosen jam nutand tum
nut=A"untildistance becomes 1-9/16". Retighten jam
nutagainst nut =A".
• Roadtest tractorfor properstopping distanceas stated
above. Readjust ifnecessary. If stopping distance is
still greater than six (6) feet in highest gear, further
maintenance is necessary. Contact your nearest au-
thorizeq service center/deparfment.

TO REPLACE MOTION DRIVE BELT
(See Fig. 24)
Parkthe tractoronlevel surface. Engage parldngbrake. For
assistance, there isa belt installationguide decalon bottom
side of left footrest.
BELT REMOVAL -
• Remove mower (See "TO REMOVE MOWER" in this
sectionof manual).
NOTE- Observe entire motion drive belt and positionof all
belt guides and keepers.
• Remove bolt from stationary idler and clutching idler.
• Remove belt downward from around engine pulley.
• Pullbelt slack toward roaroftractor. Carefully remove
belt upwards from transmission input pulley and over
coolingfan blades.
• Remove belt from center spankeeper and pullbeltaway
from tractor.
BELT INSTALLATION -
• Carefully work new belt down around transmission
cooling fan and ontothe input pulley.
• Slide belt intothe center span keeper.

• Pull belt toward front of tractor and rollaround the top
groove ofengine pulley.
• Install belt through stationary idlerand clutchingidler.
• Make sure belt isinall pulleygrooves and insideall belt
guides and keepers.
• Install mower (See "TO INSTALL MOWER" in this
section of manual).

TRANSMISSION REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT
Should your transmission require removal for service or
replacement, it should be purged after reinstallation and
before operating the tractor. See "PURGE TRANSMIS-
SION" inthe Operation section ofthis manual.
TRANSAXLE MOTION CONTROL LEVER
NEUTRAL ADJUSTMENT(See Fig. 25)
The motioncontrol lever has been preset at thefactoryand
adjustment should not be necessary.
• Loosen adjustment bolt infrontof the rightrear wheel,
and lightlytighten.
• Start engine and move motioncontrol lever untiltractor
does not move forward or backward.
• Holdmotioncontrolleverinthat pesition and turnengine
off.
• While holding motioncontrol lever in place, loosen the
adjustment bolt.
• Move motion controllevertothe neutral (N) (lockgate)
position.
• Tighten adjustment bolt securely.
NOTE: Ifadditionalclearance isneeded togettoadjustment
bolt, move mower deck heightto the lowest position.
After above adjustment is mide, if the tractor still creeps
forward or backward while motion controllever isin neutral
position, follow these steps:
• Loosen the adjustment bolt.
• Move the motion control lever 1/4 to 1/2 inch in the
direction it istrying to creep.
• Tighten adjustment boltsecurely.
• Start engine and test.
• Iftractor stillcreeps, repeat above steps untilsatisfied.
