5. Using screwdriver, move cha in
around guide bar to ensure all links
are in bar groove.
6. While lifting tip of guide bar, tighten
bar knob securely (clockwise).
Hand tighten only!

7. Push lever on bar knob down to re-
turn lever to closed/locked position.
WARNING: Failure to push lever
onbarkn ob downto closed/lockedposi-
tion couldresult inserious personalinju-
ry or damage to your chain saw.
8. Use a screwdriver to move chain
around guide bar.
9. If chain does not rotate, it is too tight.
Loosen bar knob 1 t ur n ( counter clock-
wise); then, loosen c hain by tur ning
the adj usti ng wheel

direct i on). Reti ghten bar knob.
10. If chain is too loose, it will sag below
the guide bar.
DO NOT operate the
saw if the chain is loose.
WARNING: If the saw is operated
with a loose chain, the chain could jump
off the guide bar and resultin serious in-
jury.
CHECK CHAIN SHARPNESS
A sharp chain makes woodc hips. A dull
chain makes a sawdust powder and cuts
slowly. See
CHAIN SHARPENING in the
SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS section.
CHECK GUIDE BAR
Conditi ons which requir e guide bar main-
tenance:
S Saw cut s to one side or at an angle.
S Saw has to be forced t hr ough the cut.
S Inadequate supply of oil to the bar and
chain.
Check the condit i on of the guide bar each
ti me the chain is sharpened. A worn gui de
bar will damage the chain and make cut-
ti ng diff i cul t .
Aft er each use, with uni t disconnected
fr ompower source,clean allsawdustfrom
the guid e bar and sprocket hole.
To maintain guide bar:
S Disconnect t he chainsaw f r om the pow-
er source.
S Loosen and remove bar clamp nut s.
Remove bar and chain from saw.
S Clean t he oil hol es and bar groove after
each 5 hours of operat i on.

S Burri ng of guide bar ra i l s is a normal
process of rail wear. Remove these
burrs with a flat file.
S When r ail top i s uneven, use a flat file to
restor e square edges and sides.

Replace the guide bar when the gr oove is
worn, the guide bar is bentor cr ack--ed, or
when excess heating orburring ofthe r ai ls
occur s. I f repl acem en t i s necessar y, use

the repair part s listor on t h e decal located
on t he chain saw.
