AIR FILTER
CAUTION:
Do not clean filter in gasoline
or other flammable solvent to avoid creating
a fire hazard or producing harmful evapora-
tive emissions.
Cleaning the air filter:
A dirty air filter decreases engine perform-
ance and increases fuel consumption and
harmful emissions. Always clean after e very
5 hours of operation.

Clean t he cover and the area around it to
keep dirt and s awdust from falling into the
carburetor chamber when the cover is re-
moved.
S
Remove the parts as illustrated below.
S
Wash the filter in soapand water. Rinse in
clean coolwater. Airdrycompletely before
reinstalling.
S
Lightly oil air filter before installing to im-
prove the efficiency of the air filter. Use
2 --cycle engine oil or motor oi l (SAE 30).
Squeeze excess oil from f ilter.
S
Reinstall parts.

INSPECT MUFFLER AND SPARK
ARRESTING SCREEN
As the unit is used, carbon deposits build up
on the muffler and spark arresting screen,
and must be removedto avoidcreating afire
hazard or affecting engine performance.
Replace the spark arresting screen if breaks
occur.

Cleaning i s required ever y 25 hour s of opera-
tion or annually , whichever comes first.

Loosen and remove the 2 muffler cover
screws.
S
Remove the muf fler cover (cover snaps of f
muffler body).
S
Remove muffler diffuser and spark arr esting
screen assembly. Notice the orientation of
these par ts f or reassembling.
S
Clean t he s par k arrestor screen with a wire
brush. Replace screen i f breaks a r e found.
S
Replace any br oken or cracked muf fler
parts.
S
Reinstall diffuser and spark ar r estor scr een
assembly with r ound holes f acing up.
S
Reinstall muf fler cover and 2 screws (7-8 ft/
lbs) .
CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTS
Your car bur etor is equipped with limiter caps.
Carbur etor adjustment is a complicated task.
We r ecom mend that you take your unit to an
authorizedservice dealer. Damagewill occurif
you tur n the needl es beyond the limiter stops.
BAR MAINTENANCE
If your saw c uts t o one side, has to be f or ced
through the cut, or been r un with an impr oper
amount of bar lubrication i t may be necessar y
to service your bar. A wor n bar will dam age
your chai n and make cut ting difficult.
After each use, ensur e ON/STOP switch is in
theSTOPposition,thenclean allsawdust from
the guide bar and sprocket hole.
To m aintain guide bar:

Move ON/STOP switch to the ST O P posi-
tion.
S
Loosen and r em ove chain brake nuts and
chain brake. Remove bar and chain from
saw.
S
Cleanthe oilholes andbargroove aftereach
5 hours o f operation.

Add lubricant to sprocket hole after each
use.
S
Burringof guidebarrails isa norm alprocess
of rail wear. Remove these bur rs with a flat
file.

When r ail top is uneven, use a f lat file to re-
store s quar e edges and sides.
