WARNING: The chain must not
move when the engine runs at idle speed. If
the chain moves at idle speed refer t o CAR-
BURETOR ADJUSTMENT within this
manual. Avoid contact with the muffler. Ahot
muffler c an cause serious burns.
To stop the engine move the ON/ST OP
switch to the ST OP position.
To start the engine hold the saw fi rm ly on the
ground as illustrated. Make sure the chain is
free t o turn w ithou t contacting a ny ob ject.

Use only 15″ -- 18 ″ (40 -- 45 c m) of
rope per pull.
Hold saw firmly while pulling starter rope.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER
When pulling the starter rope, donot use the
full extent of the r ope as this can cause the
rope to break. Do not let starter rope snap
back. Hold the handle and let the rope re-
wind slowly.
For cold weather starting, start the unit at
FULL C HOKE; allow the engine to warm up
before squeezing the throttle trigger.
NOTE: Do not attempt to cut material with
the choke/fastidle lever inthe FULLCHOKE
position.

STARTING A COLD ENGINE (or warm
engine aft er runni ng out of fuel )
NOTE:
In the following steps, when the
choke/fast idle lever is pulled out to the full
extent, the correct throttle setting for starting
is set automatically.

1. Mo ve ON/ST OP swit ch to the ON posi-
tion.
2. Slowly press primer bulb 6 tim es.
3. Pull choke/fast idle lever out to the full
extent (to t he FULL CHOKE position).
4. Pull the starter rope sharply 5 times with
your right hand. Then, proceed to the
next step.
NOTE: If the engine sounds as if it istrying
to start before the 5th pull, stop pulling and
immediately proceed to the next step.
5. Push the choke/fast idle lever in to the
HALF CHOKE position.

6. Pull the starter rope sharply with your
right hand until the engine starts.
7. Allow the engine torun for approximate-
ly 30 seconds. Then, squeeze and re-
lease the throttle trigger to allow engine
to return to idle speed.
STARTING A WARM ENGINE
1. Move O N/STOP switch to t he ON posi-
tion.
2. Slowly press primer bulb 6 tim es.
3. To set the fast idle, pull the choke/fast
idle lever out t o the full ex tent (to the full
choke position); then push the lever
back in t o the HALF CHOKE position.
4. Pull the starter rope sharply with your
right hand until the engine starts.
5. Squeeze and release throttle trigger to
allow engine to return to idle speed.
DIFFICULT STARTING (or starting a
flooded engine)
The engine may be flooded with too much
fuelif ithas notstartedafter 10pulls.Flooded
engines can be cleared of excess fuel by
pushing the choke/fast idle lever in com-
pletely (to the OFF CHOKE position) and
then following the warm engine starting pro-
cedure listed above. Ensure the ON/STOP
switch is in the ON position.
