WORKING TECHNIQUES
Grass trimmi ng with a tri mmer head
Trimming
S Hold the trimmer head just above the grou nd
at an angle. It is the end of the trimmer line
that does the work. Let the trimm er line wor k
at its own pace. Never press the trimmer
lineintotheareatobecut.
S The trimmer line can easily remove grass
and weeds up against walls, fences, trees
and borders, however it can also damage
sensit ive bark on trees and bushes, and
damage fence posts.
S Reduce the ri sk of damaging plants by
shortening the trimmer line to 10--1 2 cm
and reducin g the engine speed.
S When trimming you should use less than
full throttle so that the trimmer line lasts
longer and to reduce the wear on the
trimmer head.
Grass cleari ng using a grass blade
S Gra ss blades and grass cut ters must not be
used on wood y st ems.
S A grass blade is used for all type s of tall or
coarse grass.
S Thegrassiscutdownwithasideways,
swinging movement, where the movement
from right--to--left is the clea ring str oke and
the movement from left--to--right is the return
str oke. Let the left--hand side of the blade
(betwe en 8 and 12 o’cl ock) do the cutting.
S If the blade is angled to the left whe n clear-
ing grass, the grass wil l colle ct in a line,
which makes it easie r to collect, e.g. by
raki ng.
S Trytoworkrhythmically.Standfirmlywith
your feet apart . Move forward after the re-
turn st roke and stand firmly again.
S Let the suppo rt cup rest lightly against the
ground. It is used to prote ct the blade from
hitting the grou nd.
S Reduce the risk of mater ial wr apping
around the blade by followi ng these in-
str uction s:
S Always work at full throttle.
S Avoid the prev iously cut material duri ng
the return stroke.
S Stop the engine, unclip the harness and
place the machi ne on the ground befor e
you star t to co ll ect t he cut
material.
Clearing
S The clearing technique removes all un-
wanted vegetati o n. Keep the trimmer
head just above the ground and tilt it. Let
the end of the trimmer line strike the
ground around trees, post s, statues and
the like. CAUTION! This technique
increases the wear on the trimmer line.
S The trimmer line wears quicker and must
be fed forward more often when working
against stones, brick, concrete, metal
fences, etc ., than when coming into con-
tact with trees and wooden fences.
Cutting
S The trimmer is ideal for cutting grass that
is difficult to reach using a normal lawn
mower . Keep the trimmer line parallel to
the ground when cut ting. Avoid pres sing
the trimmer head against the ground as
this can ruin the lawn and damage the
tool.
