Protective gloves (not provided) should be
worn during assembly.
ATTACHING THE BAR & CHAIN
(If
not already attached)
W ARNING:
Recheck each assem-
bly stepif thesaw isreceivedassembled.Al-
ways wear gloves when handling t he chain.
The chain is sharp and can cut you even
when it is not moving!
1. Loosen and remove the clamp nuts and
the bar clamp from the saw.
2. Remove the plastic s hipping spacer (if
present).

3. Anadjustingpinandscrew is usedtoad-
just the tension ofthe chain. Itis ve ry im-
portant when assembling the bar, that
the pin located on the adjusting screw
aligns into a hole in the bar. T urning the
screw will move the adjustment pin up
and down thescrew . Locate this adjust-
ment before you begin mounting the bar
onto the saw. See illustration.

4. Turn the adjusting screw counterclock-
wise to move theadjusting pin almost as
faras it will go tothe rear. This shouldal-
low the pin to be near the correct posi-
tion. Further adjustment may be neces-
sary as you mount the bar.
5. Slide guide bar behind clutch drum until
guide bar stops against clutch drum
sprocket.

6. Prepare the chain by checking the proper
dir ectio n. Without fo llow ingthe illustr at ionit
is ea sy to place the chain on thesaw in the
wrong direct ion. Use th e illustratio n of the
chain to d etermine the p roper direction.

7. Place chain over and behind clutch, fit-
ting the drive links in the clutch drum
sprocket.

8. Fit bottom of drive links between the
teeth in the sprocket in the nose of the
guide bar.
9. Fit chain drive links into bar groove.
10. Pull guidebar forwarduntil chain is snug
in guide bar groove. Ensure al l drive
links are in the bar groove.
11 Now,install chain brakemaking surethe
adjusting pin is positioned in the lower
hole in t heguide bar. Remember this pin
moves thebar forwardand backward as
the screw is turned.
12. Install chainbrakenuts andfingertighten
only. Once the chain is tensioned, you
will need to tighten chain brake nuts.

NOTE
: When adjusting chain tension,
make sure the bar nuts are finger tight only .
Attemptingto tensionthe chain whenthebar
nuts are tight can cause damage.
Checking the tension:
Use the screwdriver endof the combination
screwdriver/wrench tool to move the chain
aroundthe bar.If thechain does notrotate,it
is tootight.Iftooloose, thechainwill sagbe-
low the bar.
