TRANSMISSION OIL AND OIL FILTER
Checking the Transmission Oil Level
Check the hydro transmission/hydraulic system oil
level before each use. Check the oil level only while
the engine is stopped and the tractor is standing on a
level surface.
Locate the transmission dipstick on the rear of
the transmission at the back of the tractor. See
Figure 58.
Figure 58
Clean the area around the dipstick to prevent
debris from entering the transmission; then with-
draw the dipstick from the transmission and wipe
clean.
Fully re-insert the dipstick into the transmission.
Withdraw the dipstick again, and check the oil
level. Always keep the oil level between the full
and add marks on the dipstick.
If the oil level is low, refer to the LUBRICATION
TABLE for the proper type and quantity of oil to
add to the transmission.
Clean the area around the breather cap and fill
tube on the back of the transmission to prevent
debris from entering the transmission . Then turn
the cap counterclockwise to unscrew from the oil
fill tube. Refer to Figure 58.
Slowly pour transmission oil into the fill tube while
frequently checking the oil level with the dipstick.
Add only enough oil to bring the oil level up to the
full mark on the dipstick.
Screw the breather cap into the fill tube, and
reinsert the dipstick into the transmission and
press firmly into place.
Changing the Transmission Oil and Filter
The oil in the transmission case is also used for the
hydraulic system. The transmission/hydraulic oil and
the oil filter (located on right side of tractor) should be
changed after the first 50 hours of operation, then at
300 hours and every 300 hours thereafter. Refer to
the LUBRICATION TABLE for the quantity and type
of oil needed.
Clean the area around the transmission dipstick
and breather cap to prevent debris from entering
the transmission. Refer to Figure 58.
Locate the drain plug on the bottom of the
transmission. Place a suitable container below
the drain plug to collect the old oil. See Figure 59.
Figure 59
Remove the dipstick and breather cap from the
transmission.
Turn the drain plug counter-clockwise to remove
from the transmission, and allow the old oil to
completely drain from the transmission. NOTE:
The capacity of the transmission is approximately
9 gallons (36 qts.), so it may be necessary to
drain the transmission in stages to capture the
used oil and/or to ease emptying the drain pan.
