;ERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS
ENGINE
TO ADJUST THROTTLE CONTROL CABLE
(See Fig, 29)
Loosencable clamp screw to allow cable to move,
Move throttle control lever on upper handle to "FAST"
position_
° Pull throttle cable out until engine bellcrank is back as
far as it will go.
Hold cable in this position and tighten clamp screw
securely.

TO ADJUST CARBURETOR (See Fig. 30)
The carburetorhas been preset at the factory and adjust_
merit should not be necessary. However, minor adjust-
ments may be required tocompensate for differencesin
fuel, temperature,altitude or Ioad_ Ifthe carburetordoes
need adjustment, proceed as folFows_
In general, turningthe needle valve in (clockwise) de-
creasesthesupply offuel totheenginegivinga leanerfue!/
air mixture° Turning the needle valve out (counterclock-
wise) increasesthe supplyoffuel to the engine giving a
richerfuel/air mixture.
IMPORTANT: DAMAGE TO THE NEEDLES AND THE
SEATS IN CARBURETOR MAY RESULT IF SCREWS
ARE TURNED IN TOO TIGHT_
PRELIMINARY SETTING
Air cleanerassemblymustbe assembledtothe carbu-
retor when making carburetoradjustments.
Be sure the throttlecontrolcable is adjusted properly
(see above).
° With engine off turn needle valve in (clockwise) closing
itfinger tight and thenturn valve out (counterclockwise)
t-1/2 turns,
FINAL SETTING
Startengine andallow towarm for five minutes. Make
final adjustments withengine runningand drive control
bar in"DISENGAGED" position°
With throttlecontrol lever in "SLOW" position,turn
needle valve in (clockwise)untilengine beginsto die
then turn out (counterclockwise) until engine runs
rough. Turnvalvetoapointmidway between thosetwo
positions.
IDLE RPM ADJUSTMENT
- To adjust idle RPM rotate throttle linkage counter_
clockwiseand hold against stop while adjustingidle
speed adjustingscrew to obtain 1750 RPM Release
throttlelinkage.
ACCELERATION TEST
Move throttle control lever from "SLOW" to "FAST"
position, Ifenginehesitates or dies, turn needlevalve
out (counterclockwise) 1/8 turn. Repeat test and
continueto adjust,if necessary, until engineacceler-
ates smoothly.
High speed stop is factory adjusted. Do not adjust or
damage may result.
IMPORTANT: NEVER TAMPER WITH THE ENGINE
GOVERNOR, WHICH IS FACTORY SET FOR PROPER
ENGINE SPEED. OVERSPEEDINGTHE ENGINE ABOVE
THE FACTORY HIGH SPEED SETTING CAN BE
DANGEROUS. IF YOUTHINK THE ENGINE-GOVERNED
HIGH SPEED NEEDS ADJUSTING, CONTACT YOUR
NEAREST SEARS SERVICE CENTER, WHICH HAS
PROPER EQUIPMENT AND EXPERIENCE TO MAKEANY
NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS,.
