Blade Sharpening
iMPORTANT:Ifany metalseparationis present,replacetheblades
withnewones.
Toproperlysharpenthe cuttingblades,removeequalamountsof
metalfrombothends of thebladesalongthecuttingedges,parallelto
the trailingedge,ata 250to 300angle,Figure21.

It is importantthateachcuttingbladeedge begroundequallyto
maintainproperbladebalance.A poorlybalancedbladewillcause
excessivevibrationandmaycausedamageto the mowerandresult
in personalinjury.Thebladecan betestedbybalancingit ona round
shaftscrewdriver.Grindmetalfromthe heavysideuntilit balances
evenly.
Blade Installation
1. Wheninstallinga blade,placethe sideofthe bladewitha part
numberstampedin it facingthegroundwhenthe mowerisin the
operatingposition.
2. Useatorquewrenchto tightenthespindleflangenutto between
70-90foot-pounds.
REPLACING BELTS
Beforeperforminganytypeof maintenanceonthemachine,waitfor
allpartsto stopmovinganddisconnectthe sparkplugwire.Failureto
followthisinstructioncouldresultinpersonalinjuryorpropertydamage
Avoidthe possibilityof a pinchinginjury.Donot placeyourfingers
betweenbeltsand pulleys.
The mowerusesthreebelts: 1)drivebelt,2)deckengagementbelt,3)
bladetimingbelt.Beforereplacinga belt,observehowthebeltis routed
aroundthe pulleysandbracketsto helpwheninstallinga replacement.
IMPORTANT:The beltson the mowerare speciallydesignedto
engageanddisengagesafely.Fora properworkingmachine,use
factoryapprovedbelts.
Replacing the Drive Belt
1. Stopengine,waitforall partsto stopmoving,anddisconnect
sparkplugwire.
Releaseall mowercontrols..

Removebelt coveras instructedearlierinthissection.
Loosenbeltkeeper(A).The beltkeeperis attachedto the
undersideof the mowerframe,Figure22.
