Changing the Engine Oil
Theoil inthe engineshouldbe changedevery25 hoursof operation.
1. Togainaccessto theoildrainvalveon the engine,the right
handlebracetube shouldbe pivotedforward.
a. Removetheupperstarknobandcarriagescrewonthe right
sideof thehandle,Figure11.
b. Pivotthe bracetubetowardsthe frontof themowerto allow
roomto connecttheoil drainhoseto theoil drainvalve,

drainport. Routetheoppositeendof the hoseintoan appropriate
oil collectioncontainerwitha capacitygreatenoughto collectthe
usedoil.
5. Releasethevalveby pressingthe twotabsinwardwhilepulling
the valveout.The oil willbeginto drainoutof theengine.
6. Afterthe oil hasfinisheddraining,pressthe twotabsinwardand
pushthe oil drainvalvebackinto lockthe valveclosed.Remove
the hose,and re-captheendof theoil drainvalveto keepdebris
fromenteringthe drainport.
7. Refillthe enginewithnewmotoroil untilthe oil levelonthe
dipstickreadsFULL.Replacetheoil fill cap/dipstick.
8. Pivotthe righthandlebracetube backintoposition.Alignthe
middleholein the bracetube withthe holeinthe handle.Secure
withthe starknobandcarriagescrewremovedearlier.
Onlyusehighqualitydetergentoil ratedwithAPI serviceclas-
sificationSF orSG. Selectthe oil'sSAEviscositygradeaccording
to yourexpectedoperatingtemperature,Figure13.Although
multi-viscosityoils(5W30,10W30etc.)improvestartingincold
weather,thesemulti-viscosityoils will resultin increasedoilcon-
sumptionwhenusedabove32°E Checkyourengineoil levelmore
frequentlyto avoidpossibleenginedamagefromrunninglowonoil.
