OPERATION / ADJUSTMENT
Regularremovalofthatchiscriticaltomaintenanceofa
healthylawn.Thatchisalayerofstems,clippings,run-
ners,rootsandleavesthathavenotdecayed.Excessive
thatchpreventsair,waterandfertilizerfromreachingthe
roots. The de-thatcher effectively dislodges excessive
thatch fromyour lawn.Readtheseinstructionsto help
avoidimproperadjustmentandoperation.
Proper adjustment of the tine shield and spring tines
is important for effective performance. Refer to the
following steps for the proper adjustment before
operating the de-thatcher.
1. Movethetowingvehicleontoalevelsurface,such
as a driveway or garage oor and attach the tine
dethatchertothevehiclehitch.Seegure10.
2. Toadjustthespringtineshield,lowerthede-thatcher
intooperatingpositionusingthelifthandle.Loosen
thetwohexnutsandcarriageboltswhichfastenthe
rearofthehitchmountarmstothehitcharmmount
brackets.Adjustthetineshielduntilitislevelandboth
thefrontandrearspringtinesareincontactwiththe
ground.Retightenthehexnuts.Seegure10.

5. If the de-thatcher appears to be "jumping" during
use,thenextraweight shouldbeaddedtothe tine
shield.Inmostconditionsextraweightwillbeneeded.
Concretepatioblocksarerecommendedforweight
because of their low prole; however any type of
weightissuitableifitcanbetieddowntotheshield.
Secure weight by using suitable binding material
suchasrubbertiedownstrapsorwire,fasteningto
theholesintheshieldange.Seegure11.
3. Vary the vehicle's forward speed until the best
dethatchingactionisachieved.
4. For best results, use a crisscross pattern on your
lawn.
MAINTENANCE
1. Before each use check all nuts and bolts for
tightness.
2. Lubricatewheelsasneeded.
3. If rust appears on the shield or spring tines, sand
lightlyandcoatwithenamelpaint.
4. Alwaysstoreinadryarea,andcoatexposedmetal
withlightoilwhennotinuse.
