S Do not abuse c ord. Never carry the unit by
the ext ension cord or yank extension cord
to disconnect unit.
S Use cord retainer to prevent disconnection
of extension co rd from unit and possible
damage to the unit due to plug movement
(see ATTACH THE EXTENSION CORD
TO YOUR TRIMMER in the OPERATION
sect ion).
S Do not use the unit if the switch does not
turn the uniton andoff properly. Repairs to
the switch must be made by your autho-
rized ser vice dealer.
S Keep the extension cord clear of operator
and obstacles at all times. Do not expose
cords to heat, oil, water , or sharp edges.
S To avoid the possibility of electric shock,
avoid body contact with any groundedcon-
ductor, such as metal fences or pipes.
S Ground Fault Circuit Interr upter (GF CI)
protection should be provided on circuit o r
outlet to be used. Receptacles are avail-
able having built-in GF CI protection and
may be used for this measure of safety.
UNIT SAFETY
S Inspect unit before use. Replace damaged
parts. Make sure all handles, guards, and
fasteners are in place and secu rely fas-
tened. Parts that are damaged must be re-
paired orreplaced byan authorizedservice
dealer These include head parts that are
cracked, or c hipped,guards, andany other
part that is damaged.
S Do not repair unit yourself.
S Use only 0.065 inch (1.65 mm) diameter
recommendedtrimmer line(seeUSER RE-
PLACEABLE SERVICE PARTS in the
SERVICE AND ADJUS TMENTS section).
Never use wire, rope, string, etc.
S Use specified trimmer spool. Make sure
spool is properly installed and all parts are
secu rely fastened.
S Useonly WEED EATER replacement parts
and accessories as recommended.
CUTTING SAFETY
WARNING: Inspect area to be cut .
Remove objects (rocks, broken glass, nails,
wire, string, etc.) which can be thrown or be-
come entangled in cu tting head.
S Do notoverreachor standon unstablesup -
port. Keep firm footing and balance.
S Keep thecutting headbelowwaistlevel.Do
notraisehandles above your waist.Cu tting
head can com e dangerously close to your
body .
S Keep away from cutting head and spinning
line.
S Use unit properly. Use o nly for trimming,
edging,scalping,and mowing.Donotforce

of injury at the rate for which it was de-
signed.
S Useonly indaylight orin goodartificiallight.
MAINTENANCE SAFETY
WARNING: Disconnect unitfromthe
power supply before performing mainte-
nance, or when changing trimmer line.
S Maintain unit according to reco mm ended
procedures. K eep cutting line at proper
length. Follow instr uctions for changing
trimmer line.
S Have all se rvice and maintenance not ex-
plained in this manual performed by an au-
thorized service dealer to avoid creating a
hazard.
S Never douse or squirt t he unitwith water or
any other liquid. Clean unit andlabels with
a damp sponge. Keep handles dry, clean,
and free from oil and grease.
S Keep the air vents clean and free of debris
to avoid overheating t hemotor. Cleanafter
each use.
TRANSPORTING AND STORAGE
S Stop the unit and disconnect t he power
source when not in use.
S Carry the unit with motor stopped.
S Store the unit so the line limiter blade (on
underside of shield) cannot cause injury.
S Store unit indoors i na high, dry place outof
the reach o f c hildren. St ore unitunplugged.
S Do not hangunit sothat thetrigger switchis
depressed.
DOUBLE INSULATION
CONSTRUCTION
This unit is double insulated to help protect
against electric shock. Double insulation
constructionconsistsoftw osepar ate“layers”
of electrical insulation instead of grounding.
Tools built with this insulation system are not
intended to be grounded. No grounding
means is provided on this unit, nor should a
meansof groundingbeaddedto thisunit. Asa
result, the extension cord used with your unit
can be plugged into any standard 120 volt
electrical outlet.
Safety precautions must be observed when
operating any electr ical tool. The double in-
sulation system only provides added protec-
tion against injury resulting from an inter nal
electrical insulation failure.
WARNING: All electrical repair s to
this unit, including housing, switch, motor ,
lockingsleeve assem bly, wires, etc., must be
diagnosed and repaired by qualified service
personnel.Replacem entparts f oradoublein-
sulated appliance must be recommended by
the m anufacturer . A double insulated ap-
pliance is marke d with the words “double in-
sulation” or “double insulated”. The symbol
(square within a sq uare)
may also be
marked onthe appliance. Failure to have the
unit repaired by qualified service personnel
can cause the double insulation con struct ion
to become ineffective and result in serious
injury.
