CHOKE
The CHOKE helps to supply fuel to the engine
to a id i n cold starting. Activate the choke b y
moving choke lever to the desired position. See
STAR TING YOUR ENGINE for com pletestart-
ing informa tion .
PRIMER BULB
ThePRIMER BULBremoves airfrom thecar-
buretor and fuel lines and fills them with fuel.
This allows you tostart the engine with fewer
pulls on the starter rope. Activate the p rimer
bulb by pressing it and allowing it to return to
its original position.
THROTTLE TRIGGER
The THROTTLE TRIGGER controls engine
speed. Squeeze the trigger for full speed opera-
tion; release it for idle speed.
WARNING: Muffler is very hot during
and after u se. Do not touch the muf fler or al-
low combustiblematerialsuchas dry grassor
fuel to do so.
BEFORE STARTING ENGINE
WARNING: Be sure to read the fuel
information in the safety rules before you be-
gin. If you do not understand the safety rules,
do not attempt to fuel your unit. Call
1-800-554-6723.
FUELING ENGINE
WARNING: Remove fuel cap slowly
when refueling.
HELPFUL TIP
To obtain thecorrect oil mix
ratio, pour 3.2 ounces of
2--cycle synthetic oil into
one gallon of fresh gas.
This engineis certified tooperate onunle aded
gasoline. Before operation, gasoline must be
mixed with a good quality synthetic 2-cycle air-
cooled engine oil designed to bemixed at a ratio
of 40:1. Poulan/WEED EA TER brand synthetic
oil i s r ecomm ended. A 40:1 ratio is obtained
by mixing 3.2 fluid ounces (95 ml) ofoil with 1
gallon (4 liters) of unleaded gasoline). DO
NOT USE automotive oil or boat oil. These
oils will cause engine damage. When m ixing
fuel, follow instructions printed on oilcontain-
er. Once oil is added to gasoline, shake con-
tainer momentarily to assure that the fuel is
thoroughly mixed.Always readand follow the
safety rules listed under HANDLE FUEL
WITH CAUTION.
CAUTION: Never use straight gasoline in
your unit. This will cause permanent engine
damage and void the limited warranty.
FUEL REQUIREMENTS
This engine requires the use of minimum 87
octane [R+M]/2 clean gasoline.
IMPORTANT
Use of alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol or
using ethanol or methanol) can cause major en-
gine performance and durability problems.
WARNING: Alternative fue ls (not gas-
oline) such as E--15 (15% alcohol), E--20 (20%
alcohol), E--85 (85%alcohol) are NOT classified
as gasoline and are NOT approved for use in
2--stroke gasoline engines. Use of alternative
fuels will cause problems such as: improper
clutch engagements, overheating, vapor lock,
power loss, lubrication deficiency, deterioration
of fuel lines, gaskets and internal carburetor
components, etc. Alternative fuels cause high
moisture absorption into the fuel/oil mixture
leading to oil and fuel separation.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
It is recommended that the engine not be
operated for longer than 30secondsatfull
throttle. Releasing the trigger and allowing
the engine to b riefly return to idle speed (5 --
10 seconds) will be sufficient.
