Problem Cause Remedy
Engine fails to start PTO/Blade engaged.
Spark plug wire disconnected.
Fuel tank empty, or stale fuel.
Choke not activated.
Faulty spark plug.
Blocked fuel line.
Engine flooded.
Parking brake not engaged
Throttle control lever not in correct starting
position.

Place blade engage lever in disengaged
(OFF) position.
Connect wire to spark plug.
Fill tank with clean, fresh (less than 30 days
old) gas.
Place the throttle control in CHOKE position.
Clean, adjust gap or replace plug.
Clean fuel line and replace fuel filter.
Crank engine with throttle in FAST position.
Engage parking brake.
Place throttle lever to FAST position.

Engine runs erratic Unit running with CHOKE activated.
Spark plug wires loose.
Blocked fuel line or stale fuel.
Vent in gas cap plugged.
Water or dirt in fuel system.
Dirty air cleaner.

Move the throttle contol out of the CHOKE
position.
Connect and tighten spark plug wire.
Clean fuel line; fill tank with clean, fresh
gasoline and replace fuel filter
Clear vent or replace cap if damaged.
Drain fuel tank. Refill with clean, fresh
gasoline.
Replace air cleaner paper element or clean
foam precleaner.

Engine overheats Engine oil level low.
Air flow restricted.

Fill crankcase with proper amount and
weight of oil.
Clean grass clippings and debris from around
the engine’s cooling fins and blower housing.

Engine hesitates at high

Mow once at a high cutting height, then
