STEP 7: Pull blade control to upper handle and at the
same time pull rope start handle up to rope guide
located on right side of upper handle, for recycling
models as shown or on the left side of upper handle for
grass bagging models. See Figure 8. Continue holding
rope start handle and release blade control, loop rope
into rope guide. See Figure 9. Set-up is now complete
for push models without electric starting or self-
propelled drive system. For self-propelled models
continue to the “Self-Propelled Models” Section. And for
electric start models, continue to the “Electric Start
Models” Section. Proceed to checklist found on last
page of this instruction to prepare mower for use.

SELF-PROPELLED MODELS
NOTE: The set-up procedure for self-propelled models is
basically the same as the Push Models. Follow the exact
procedure as described in Steps 1 thru 6 from the Push
Models section on Pages 1 & 2. The speed control rod is
divided into three sections. The upper section, intermediate
section and lower section.
IMPORTANT: Before folding the speed control rod out,
loosen both control rod wing nuts. This allows the locking
tabs to have enough clearance to rotate freely without
binding against the control rod before locking into
operational position.
STEP 1: The speed control rod is folded out in
sequence along with the upper and lower handle.
STEP 2: Straighten upper handle until it is in line and
seats into lower handle. Tighten upper handle T-Knobs
on both sides. Straighten locking tab on control rod until
it locks into corresponding slot. Tighten upper speed
control rod wing-nut. See Figure 10.
STEP 3: Rotate upper/lower handle assembly until it is
in line with lower handle brackets, then tighten lower
handle T-Knobs on both sides. Straighten locking tab on
control rod until it locks into corresponding slot. Tighten
lower speed control rod wing-nut. See Figure 10.
