S Remember your fi r st cut is always on
the compression side of t he log.
(Refer to the illustration below for your
fir st and second cut)

LIMBING AND PRUNING
WARNING: Be alert for and gu ard
againstkickback. Don ot allow the mov-
ing chain to contact any other branches
or objects at the nose of the guide bar
when limbing or pruning. Allowing such
contact can result in serious injury.
WARNING: Never climb into a tree
to limb or prune. Do not s tand on lad-
ders, platforms, a log, or in any position
which can cause you to lose y our b al-
ance or control of the saw.
IMPORTANT POINTS
S W atch out for spri ng poles. Spring poles
are small size limbs which can whip to-
war d you or pull you of f b a l a nc e. Use
extreme cauti on whencutting smal lsize
limbs.
S Be alert for spring back f r om any
branches that are bent or under pr es-
sure. Avoid bei ng stru ck by the br anch
or t he saw when the tension i n the wood
fiber s is r eleased.
S Frequentl y clear branches out of the
way t o avoid trippi ng over them.
LIMBING

S Star t at the ba se of the felled tree and
work toward t he top, cutting branches
and l imbs.Remo vesmallli m bs withone

S Keep t r ee between you and the chain.
S Remove larger branches with the cut-
ting techniques described
BUCKING
WITHOUT A SUPPOR T.
S Alw ays use an overcut to cut smal l and
freel y hanging limbs. Undercutting
could cause limbs to fal l and pinch the
saw.
PRUNING
WARNING: Limit pruning to limbs
shoulder height or below. Do not cut if
branches are higherthan yourshoulder.
Get a professional to do the job.
S Make you r first cut
1/3 of the way
through the bottom of the limb. Th is
cutwillmake the limbsag so that itfalls
easily on the second cut.
S Next make a second cut all the way
through the limb.
S Finish the pruning operation by using
an overcut so that the stump o f the
limb protrudes 1 to 2 inches (3--5 cm)
from the trunk of the tree.
