UNIT / MAINTENANCE SAFETY
WARNING: Disconnect t he spark
plug before performing maintenance except
carburetor adjustments.
S Look for andreplace damaged or loose parts
before each use. Look for and repair fuel
leaks before use. Keep in good working
condition.
S Replace trimmer head partsthat arechipped,
cracked, br oken, or damaged in any other
way b efore using the unit.
S M aintain unitaccording torecommended pro-
cedures. Keep cutting line at proper length.
S Use only 0.080inch (2mm) diameterPoulan/
WEED E ATER brand l ine. Never use wi re,
rope, string, etc.
S Install required shield properly before using
the u nit. Use only specified trimmer head;
make sureit isproperly installed andsecurely
fastened.
S Ma ke sure uni t is asse m b l e d co r re ct l y as
shown i n this manual.
S M ake carburetor adjustments with lower end
supported to p revent linefrom contacting any
object.
S Keep others away when making carburetor
adjustments.
S Use only recommended Poulan/WEED
EA TER accessories and repla cement parts.
S Have all maintenance and service not ex-
plainedin thismanualperformedby anautho-
rized service dealer.
FUEL SAFETY
S M ix and pour fuel outdoors.
S Keep away from sparks or flames.
S Use a container approved for fuel.
S Do not smoke or allow smoking near fuel or
the unit.
S A void spillingfuel oroil. Wipe upall fuelspills.
S M ove at least 1 0 feet (3 meters) away from
fueling site before starting engine.
S Stop engine and allow to cool before remov-
ing fuel cap.
S Always store gasoline in a container ap-
proved for flammable liquids.
CUTTING SAFETY
WARNING: Inspect the area before
each use. Remove objects (rocks, broken
glass, nails, wire, etc.) which can be thrown
by or become entangledin line. Hard objects
can damage thetrimmer headand bethrown
causing serious injury.
S Keep others including children, ani mals, b y-
standers,and h elpers at least 50feet (15me-
ters) away. Bystanders should be encour-
aged t o wear safety glasses. Stop engine
immediately if you are approached.
S Use only for trimming, scalping, mowing,
edging andsweeping. Do notuse forprun-
ing or hedge trimming.
S Keep firm footing and balance. Do not over-
reach.
S Keep allparts of your body a way frommuffler
and spinning line. Keep engine below w aist
level. A hot muf fler can cause serious burns.
S Cutfrom yourright toyour left. Cuttingon l eft
side of the shield will throw debris away from
the operator.
S Use only i n daylight or good artificial light.
S Use only for jobs explained in this manual.
TRANSPORTING AND STORAGE
S Allow engine to cool; secure unit before stor-
ing o r transporting in vehicle.
S Empty the fuel tank before storing or trans-
porting theunit.Use upfuelleftin thecarbure-
tor b y starting theengineand l etting itrununtil
it stops.
S Store unit and fuel in area where fuel vapors
cannot reach sparks or openflames fromwa-
ter hea ters, electric mot ors or switches, f ur-
naces, etc.
S Storeunitsoline limiterblade cannotacciden-
tally causeinjury.Theunit canbehungby the
shaft.
S Store unit out of reach of children.
WARNING: The engine exhaust
from this product contains chemicals known

through prolonged use o f gasoline powered
