SAFETY RULES
WARNING: When using e lectric
gardening appliances, basic safety pre-
cautions must always be followed to re-
duce the risk of fire, electric shock, and
serious injury. Read and follow all
instructions.
WARNING: Always disconnect
power source when maki ng repairs, a d-
justment s, a nd when changi ng accesso-
ries and attachments such as saw bar,
chain o r guards.
Because a chain saw i s a high-speed
woodcutti ng tool, special precauti ons
must be observed to r educe risk of acci-
dents. Car eless or impr oper use of this
tool can cause serious inj ur y.
PLAN AHEAD
S Restr ict the use of your saw to adult us-
ers who understand and can foll ow the
saf ety rul es, precau tion s, and operat ing
instr uct i ons found in t hi s manual.
S Dress properly. Wear protective gear.
Always use steel-toed safety footwear
with non-slip soles; snug-fitting cloth-
ing; heavy -duty, non-slip gloves; eye
protection such as non-fogging,
vented goggles or face screen; an ap-
proved s afety hard hat; and s ound
barriers (ear plugs or mufflers) to pro-
tect your hearing. Regular users
should have hearing checked regular-
ly as chain saw noise can damage
hearing.
S Secure hair above shoulder length. D o
not wear l oose clot hing or jewelr y; they
can get caught in moving part s.

S Keep all parts of your body away from
the chain when saw is runni ng.
S Keep chil dren away. Do not let visit or s
cont act chain saw or extension cord. Al l
visitors shoul d be kept at least 30 fee t
(10 met ers) away from w ork ar ea.
S Do no t handl e or oper ate a chain saw
when you are fatigued, ill, upset, or if you
have taken alcohol, drugs, or medi ca-
ti on. You must be i n good physical con-
diti on and mentally alert . If you have any
condition that might b e aggravated by
strenuous work, c heck w i t h doctor be-
fore operating.
W atch what you are doing. Use com-
mon sense.
S Do not start cut t i ng until y ou have a cl ear
work area, secure f ooti ng, and especial-
ly if you are felling a tree, a retreat path.
Keep work area clean.
OPERATE YOUR SAW SAFELY
S Do not operate with one hand. Serious
injury to the operator , helpers, or by-
standers may result fr om one-handed
operati on. A c hain saw i s i nt ended for
two-handed use.
S Do not operate saw fr om a ladder or in a
tree.
S Make su re the chain will not m a ke con-
tact wit h any object while starting the
saw. Never star t the saw when the
guide bar is in a cut.
S Do not for ce chain saw. It wil l do the job
better and safer at the r ate for which it
was intended.
S Do no t put pressure on the s aw, espe-
cially at the end of the cut. Doing so can
cause you t o lose cont rol w hen the cut is
completed.
S Stop the saw before set t i ng it down.
S Hand carry saw only when motor is
stopped. Carry the chain saw by the
front handl e with the saw stopped, fi nger
of f the switch, the guide bar and saw
chain to the r ear.
S Use the rig ht tool , cut w oo d only. D o n’t
use chain saw for purpose not int ended;
for example, don’t use chain saw for cut-
ting plast i c, masonry, non-wood building
materi als.
S Do not operate a chain saw that is dam-
aged, improperl y adjusted, or not com-
pletel y and securel y assembled. Al-
ways replace bar, chain, hand guard, or
othe r part s im m ediat e ly if they be com e
damaged, broken, or are ot her wi se re-
moved.
S Inspect chain saw cor ds periodical ly
and i f damaged , have repair e d by an
authori zed service dealer.
