Adjusting Screw
5. Check t he tension by lifting the c hain
fr om the guide bar. Remove some of
the stiffness in the chain by pulling
down and lettin g go ofthe chain sever-
al ti m es.
6. Conti nue turni ng t he adjusting screw
until the tension is correct (see step 4).
7. T i ghten bar clamp nuts with a wrench.
8. Recheck chain tension.
WARNING: If the saw is operated
with a loose chain, the chain could jump
off the guide bar and result in se rious in-
jury.
CHECK CHAIN SHARPNESS
A sharp chain makes wood chips. A dull
chain m akes a sawdust p owder and cuts
slow ly. See

Conditi ons which requir e gu i de b ar main-
tenance:
S Saw cuts to one side or at an angle.
S Saw has to be f o rced t hrough the cut.
S Inadequate supply of oi l to t he bar and
chain.
Check the conditi on of the guide bar each
tim e the chain is sharpened. A worn guide
bar will da m a ge the cha in a n d m ake cut-
ting di ff i cult .
Aft er each use, w it h unit disconnected
from powe rsource, clean al l sawdustfr o m
the guide bar and sprocket hol e.
To m aintain g uide b ar:
S Disconnect the chain saw from the pow-
er so urce.
S Loosen and remove bar clamp n uts.
Remove bar and chain fr om saw.
S Clean the oil holes an d bar groove after
each 5 hours of operati on.

S Burri ng of guide bar rai ls is a normal
process of rail wear. Remove these
burrs with a f lat file.
S When rail top is uneven, use a flat file to
restor e square edges and sides.

Replace the guide bar when the groove is
worn, the guide bar is bent or crack--ed, or
when excess heating or bur ri ng of t he rai l s
occur s. If repl acem en t is necessar y, use
only the guide bar speci fi ed foryour saw in
the repair pa rts list or on the decal loca ted
on the chain saw.

INSPECT AND CLEAN UNIT AND

S After each use, inspect complete unit for
loose or damaged par t s. Clean the unit
and labels using a damp cloth with a
mild deter g ent.
S Wipe off the unit and labels with a c l ean
dry c lot h.

You can purchase s harpeni ng tools a t an
authori zed service dealer or go to a pro-
fessional chain shar pener.
WARNING: Avoid accidental start-
ing. Always unplug saw from power
source before installing a bar and/or
chain.
CHAIN REPLACEMENT
WARNING: Wear p rotective
gloves when handling chain. The chain
issharpandcancutyouevenwhenitis
not moving.
