S A good, fir m grip on t he saw with both
hands wi ll help you mai nt ain control.
Don’t let go. Gr i p the rear handle wit h
your r i ght hand whether you are r ight or
left handed. Wr ap the f i ngers of your lef t
hand over and around the f r ont handle-
bar, and your lef t thumb under t he fr ont
handlebar. K eep your left arm str ai ght
with the elbow locked.
S Position your left hand on the front
handlebar so it is in a straight line with
your right hand on the rear handle
when making bucking cuts. Stand
slightly to the left side of the saw to
keep your body from being in a direct
line with the cutting chain.
S Stand with your weight evenly bal-
anced on both feet.
S Do not over reach . Yo u could be drawn
or thrown off balance and lose control .
S Do not cut above s houlder height. It is
difficult to maintain control of saw
above shoulder height.
KICKBACK SAFETY FEATUR E S
WARNING: The following features
are included onyour sawto helpreduce
hazard of kickback; however, such fea-
tures will not totally eliminate this d an-
ger. Do not rely only on safety devices.
S Hand Guard: designed to reduce the
chance of your left hand contacting
the chain if yourhand slipsoff the front
handlebar.
S Position of front and rear handlebars:
designed with distance between han-
dles and “in-line” with each other. The
spread and “in-line” position of the
handsprovidedby thisdesign workto-
gether to give balance and resistance
in controlling the pivot of the saw back
toward the operator if kickback oc-
curs.
S Reduced-Kickback Guide Bar: de-
signed witha small radiustip whichre-
duces the size of the kickback danger
zone on the bar tip. This type bar has
been demonstrated to significantly re-
duce the number a nd seriousness of
kickbacks when tested in accordance
with ANSI B175.1.

S Tip contact in some cases may caus e
a lightning fast
REACTION,kickingthe
guide bar up and back toward the op-
erator.
S Pinchingthe saw chain along the tipof
the guide bar may push the guide bar
rapidly back towards the operator.
S Either of these reactions may cause
you to lose control of the saw which
could result in serious injury. Do not
rely exclusively upon safety devices
built into your saw.

when used on saws list ed in thi s manual.
Use of bar and chai n combinat ions other
than t hose li st ed is not recommended and
may not meet the CKA requirements per
