THROTTLE LOCK--OUT
The T HROTTLE LOCK--OUT mu st be
pressed before you can squeeze the throttle
trigger. This feature prevents you from acci-
dentally squeezing the trigger .
CHOKE/ FA ST IDLE L EVE R
The choke and fast idle are set by pulling the
CHOKE/F AST IDLE LEVER out to the ful l ex-
tent for cold starting or after refueling. The
choke provides additional fuel to the engine
during cold starting.
PRIMER BUL B
The P RIMER BULB circulates fuel to the car-
buretor to provide qui cker starting.
CHAIN BRAKE
The chain brake is a device d esigned t o s top
the chain if kickb ack o ccurs. The chai n brake
activates automatically in the event of kick-
back. Thechainbrakeactivates manually ifthe
front hand guard i s pushedforward. T he chain
brake i s disengaged b y pulling the front hand
guard back toward the front handle as far as
possible.

HELPFUL TIP
Toobtain thecorrectoilmix
ratio, pour 3.2 ounces of
2--cycle synthetic oil into
one gallon of fresh gas.
This engine is certified to operate on unleaded
gasoline. Before operation, gasoline must be
mixed with a good quality synthetic 2-cycle air-
cooled engi ne oil designed tobe mixed at ara-
tio of 40:1. Poulan/WEED EATER brand syn-
thetic oi l is r ecommended. A 40:1 ratio is
obtained by mixing 3.2 ounces (95 ml) of oil
with 1 gallon (4 liters) of unleaded gasoline.
Included with t his saw is a 3 .2 ounce (95 ml)
containerof Poulan/WEEDEA TER b rand syn-
thetic oi l. Pour the entire contents of this con-
tainer into 1 gal lon (4 l iters) of gasoline to
achievetheproperfuel mixture. DO NOTUSE
automotive or marine oil. These oils will
causeenginedamage. Whenmixing fuelfol-
low theinstructions printed onthe container.

under HANDLE FUEL WITH CAUTION.
BAR AND CHAIN L UBRICATION
The bar and chain r equire continuous lubri-
cation. Lubrication is provided by the auto-
matic oiler system when the oil tank is kept
filled. Lack of oil will quickly ruin the bar and
chain. Too little oil will cause overheating
shownbysmokecomingfromthechainand/
or discoloration of thebar.
In freezing weather oil will thicken, making it
necessary to thin bar and chain oil with a
small am ount(5 to10%)of #1DieselFuel or
kerosene. Bar and chain oil must be free
flowingfortheoilsystemtopumpenoughoil
for adequate lubrication.
Genuine Poulan bar and chain oil is recom-
mended to protect your unit against exces-
sive wear from heatand friction. Poulan oil
resists hightemperature thinning.
If Poulan barand chain oil is notavailable,
use a goodgrade SAE 30 oil.
S Neverusewasteoilfor barandchainlubri-
cation.
S Always stop the engine before removing
the oil cap.
IMPORTANT
Experience indicates that alcohol--blended
fuels (called gasohol or u singethanol or met h-
anol) canattract moisture whichleads tosepa-
ration and formation of acids during storage.
Acidic ga s can da m age the f uel system o f an
engine while in storage. Toavoid engine p rob-
lems, t hefuelsystemshouldbeemptiedbefore
storage for 30 days or longer . Drain the gas
tank, start the engine andlet i t run until the f uel
lines and carburetor are e mpty. Use fresh f uel
next season. See STORAGE section for addi-
tional i nformation.
CHAIN BRAKE
Ensure chain brake is disengaged by pulling
the f ront handguard back towardthefront han-
dle a s faras possible. Th echainbrakemustbe
disengaged before cutting with the saw .
WARNING: The chain must not
move when t h e engine runs at idle speed. If
the chain moves at idle speed refer to CAR-
BURET OR ADJUSTMENT within this
manual.Avoid contact withthemuffler.Ahot
muffler can cause serious burns.
To stop the engine move the ON/STOP
switch to the STOP position.
To start the engine holdthe saw firmly o n th e
ground as illustrated. Make sure the chain is
free to tu rn without con tacting any ob ject.
