REPLACE SPARK PLUG
The spark plug should be replaced each
year to ensure the engine starts easier and
runs better . Ignition timing is fixed and non-
adjustable.
1. Loosen 3 screws on cylinder cover.
2. Remove the cylinder cover.
3. Pull of f the spark plug boot.
4. Remove spark plug from cylinder and
discard.
5. Replace with Champion RCJ--7Y spark
plug andtighten securely with a
3

4
inch
(19mm) socketwrench.Spark pluggap
should be0.025 inch (0,6 m m ).
6. Reinstall the spark plug boot.
7. Reinstall the cylinder cover and 3
screws. Tighten securely.

REPLACE FUEL FILTER
To replace fuel filter, drain your unit by run-
ning it dry of fuel. Remove fuel cap and its
connected retainer fromtank. Pull filter from
tank and remove from line. Replace and re-
assemble.

CHAIN S H ARPENING
Chain sharpening is a complicated task and
requires s pecial tools. We recommend that
you refer chain sharpeningto aprofessional
chain sharpener.
CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT
WARNING: Thechainwillbemoving
during most of this procedure. Wear your pro-
tective equipment and observe all safety pre-
cautions. The chain must not move at idle
speed.
The carburetor has been carefully set at the
factory. Adjustments may be necessary if
you notice any of the following conditions:
S Chainmoves at idle.See IDLESPEED--T
adjusting procedure.
S Saw willnot idle.SeeIDLESPEED--T ad-
justing procedure.
Idle Speed--T
Allow engine to idle. If the chain moves, idle is
toofast. Iftheenginestalls,idleistooslow . Ad-
just speed until engine runs without chain
movement (idle too fast) or stalling (idle too
slow). The idle speed screw i s located in the
area above the primer bulb and is labeled T.
S Turn idle screw (T) clockwise to increase
engine speed.
S Turn idle screw (T) counterclockwise to
decrease engine speed.

STORAGE
WARNING: Perform the following
steps after each use:
S Allow the engine to cool, and secure the
unit before storing or transporting.
S Store chain saw and fuel in a well venti-
latedarea wherefuelvaporscannotreach
sparksoropenflamesfromwaterheaters,
electric motors orswitches, furnaces,etc.
S Store chain saw with all guards in place
and position chain saw so that any sharp
object cannot accidentally cause injury.
S Store chain saw well out of the r each of
children.
SEASONAL STORAGE
Prepareyourunitforstorageattheendofthe
season orif it will not beusedfor 30 days or
more.
If your chain saw is to be stored f or a period
of time:
S Clean saw thoroughly before storage.
S Store in a clean dry area.
S Lightly oil external metal surfaces and
guide bar.
S Oilthechainand wrapit inheavy paperor
cloth.
FUEL SYSTEM
Under FUELING ENGINE in the OPERA-
TION s ection of this manual, see message
labeled IMPORTANT r egarding the u se of
gasohol inyour chain saw.
Fuelstabilizer isanacceptablealternativein
minimizing the formation of fuel gumdepos-
itsduringstorage.Addstabilizertothegaso-
line inthe fueltank orfuel storagecontainer.
Follow themixinstructions foundonstabiliz-
ercontainers.Runengine atleast 5minutes
after adding stabilizer.
Poulan/WEED EA TER 40:1, 2-cycleengine
oil (air cooled) is blendedwith fuelstabilizer.
If you do not use this oil, you can add a fuel
stabilizer to your fuel tank.
