CAUTION
: Do not clean filter in gasoline
or other flammable solvent to avoid creating
a fire hazard or producing harmful evapora-
tive emissions.
Cleaning the air filter:
A dirty air filter decreases the life and per for-
mance of the engine andincreases fuel con-
sumption and harmful emissions. Always
clean your air f ilter after 10 tanks of fuel or 5
hours of operation, whichever comes first.
Clean more frequently in dusty conditions. A
used air filter can never be completely
cleaned. It is advisable to replace your airfil-
ter withanew oneafter every 50hours ofop-
eration, or annually, whichever comes f irst.
1. Loosen 3 screws on cylinder cover.
2. Remove cylinder cover.
3. Remove air filter.
4. Cleanthe airfilter usinghotsoapywater .
Rinse with clean cool water. Air dry
completely before reinstalling.
5. Lightly oil air filter bef ore installing to im-
prove the efficiency of air filter. Use
2--cycle engine oilor motoroil (SAE30).
Squeeze excess oil f rom filter.
6. Reinstall air filter.
7. Reinstall cylinder cover and 3 screws.
TIghten securely.

INSPECT MUFFLER AND SPARK
ARRESTING SCREEN
As the unit is used, carbon deposits buildup
on the muffler and spark arresting screen,
and m ust beremoved toavoid creating afire
hazard or a ffecting engine performance.
Replacethe spark arresting screen ifbreaks
occur.

CLEANING THE SPARK ARREST-
ING SCREEN
Cleaning is required every 25 hours of op-
eration or annually, whichever comes first.
1. Loosen and remove the 2 m uffler cover
screws.
2. Remove the muffler cover (cover snaps
off muffler body).
3. Remove muffler diffuser and spark ar-
resting screen assembly. Notice the
orientation of these parts for reassem-
bling.
4. Clean the spark arresting screen with a
wire brush.Replacescreenifbreaks a re
found.
5. Replace any broken or cracked muffler
parts.
6. Reinstall diffuser and spark arresting
screen assembly with round holes fac-
ing up.
7. Reinstall muffler cover and 2 screws.
Tighten securely .
CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT
WARNING: The chain will be mov-
ing during most ofthis procedure. Wearyour
protective equipment and observe all safety
precautions. Thechain m ustnotmoveatidle
speed.
The carburetor has been carefully set at the
factory. Adjustments may be necessary if
you notice any of the following conditions:
S Chain moves a t idle. See IDLE SPEED--T
adjusting procedure.
S Saw will not idle.See IDLESPEED--T ad-
justing procedure.
Idle Speed--T
Allow engine to idle. If t he chain moves, idle
istoofast. Iftheenginestalls,idleis tooslow.
Adjust speed until engineruns w ithout chain
movement (idle too fast) or stalling (idle too
slow). The idlespeed screw is locatedin the
area above the primer bulb and is labeled T.
S Turn idle speed screw (T) clockwise to in-
crease engine speed.
S Turn idle speed screw (T) counterclock-
wise to decrease engine speed.
