NOTE:
After adjustment, the washers be-
tween the bolt head and the blade should be
able to be turned by hand, but not loose
enough to move when the unit is tilted from
side to side.
CAUTION:
If the clearance between the
cutting blades is set too wide, the blades will
notcutcorrectly.If theblades areadjustedtoo
tight, overheating may occur.
REPLACE SPARK PLUG
Replace spark plug each year to ensure the
engine starts easier and runs better. Set
spark plug gap at 0.025 inch (0.6 mm). Igni-
tion timing is fixed, nonadjustable.
1. Twist, then pull off spark plug boot.
2. Remove spark plug f rom cylinder and d is-
card .
3. Replace with Champion RCJ-6Y spark
plug and tighten securely with a 3/4 inch
(19 mm) socket wrench.
4. Reinstall the spark plug boot.
REPLACE FUEL FILTER
Toreplacefuelfilter, drainunit byrunningit dry
of fuel, then remove fuel cap/retainer assem-
bly from tank. Pull filter from tankand remove
it fromthefuel line. Installnew fuelfilter onfuel
line; reinstall parts.

STORAGE
W ARNING:
Perform the following
steps after each use:
S
Allow engine to cool, and secure the unit
before storing or transporting.
S
Store unit and fuel in a well ventilated area
where fuel vapors cannot reach sparks or
open flames from water heaters, electric
motors or switches, furnaces, etc.
S
Store unit with the blade cover installed.
Position unit so that any sharp object can-
not accidentally cause injury.
S
Store unit and fuel well out of the reach of
children.
SEASONAL STORAGE
Prepare unit for storageat end ofseason or if
it will not be used for 30 days or more.
If your unit is to be stored for a period o f time:
S
Clean the entire unit.
S
Store in a clean dry area.
S
Clean all parts and check for damage.
Have damaged parts repaired or replaced
by an authorized service dealer.
S
Keep all nuts, bolts, and screws tight.
S
Lightly oil external metal surfaces, includ-
ing the blade.
S
Install the blade cove r .
To oil the blade, do the following:
S
Stop theengine andallow bladeto come to
a complete stop.
S
Ensure ON/OFF switch is in the OFF posi-
tion.
S
Disconnect the spark plug wire.
S
Apply a light machine oil along the edge of
the top strap as shown.

FUEL SYSTEM
Under FUELING ENGINE in the OPERA-
TION section o fthis manual,see messagela-
beled IMPORTANT regarding the use of ga-
sohol in your engine. Fue l stabilizer is an ac-
ceptable alter native in minim izing the forma t ion
of fuel g um deposits during storage. Add stabi-
lizer to gasoline in fuel tank or fuel storage con-
tainer. Follow the mix instructions found on sta-
b ilizer con t ainer. Run e ng ine a t le ast 5 min utes
after adding stab ilizer .
HELPFUL TIP
During storageof your gas/
oil mixture, theoil will sepa-
rate from the gas.
We recommend that you
shake the gas can weekly
to insure pr operblending of
the gas and oil.
