Cleaning the air filter:
A dirty air filter decreases engine perform-
ance and increases fuel consumption and
harmful emissions. Always clean after 15
tanks of fuel or 5 hours of operation, which-
ever comes first. Clean more frequently in
dusty conditions. A usedaire filter c annever
be completely cleaned. It is advisable to re-
place yourairfilter witha newoneafterevery
50hoursofoperation,or annually,whichever
comes first.
1. Loosen 3 screws o n cylinder cover .
2. Remove cylinder cover.
3. Remove air filter.
4. Clean the air filter using hotsoapy water.
Rinsewith cleancool water. Air drycom-
pletely before reinstalling.
5. Lightly oil air filter before installing to im-
prove the efficiency of air filter. Use
2--cycle engine oil or motor oil (SAE 30).
Squeeze excess oil from filter.
6. Reinstall air filter.
7. Reinstall cylinder cover and 3 screws.
TIghten securely.

INSPECT MUFFLER AND SPARK
ARRESTING SCREEN
As the unit is used, carbon deposits build up
on the muffler and spark arresting screen,
andmust be removedto avoidcreating afire
hazard or affecting engine performance.
Replace thespark arresting screen ifbreaks
occur.

Cleaning is r equired e very 25 ho urs o f o pera-
tion or annually, wh ichever comes first.
1. Loosen and remove the 2 muffler cover
screws.
2 . Remove the muffle r cove r (co ver snaps o ff
muf f ler bod y).
3 . Re move muffler diffuser an d spark arr est-
ing screen a ssembly. N otice theorientation
of the se parts for r eassembling.
4. Clean the spark arrestor screen with a wire
brush. Replace screen if breaks are found.
5. Replace any broken or cracked muff ler
parts.
6. Reinstall diffuser a ndspark arrestor screen
assembly with round h oles facing u p.
7. Reinstall muffler cover and 2 screws.
Tighten securely .
CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT
WARNING:
The chain will be mov-
ing during most of this procedure. Wear your
protective equipment and observe all s afety
precautions.The c hain mustnotmove atidle
speed.
The carburetor has been carefully set at the
factory. Adjustments may be necessary if
you notice any of the following conditions:
S Chain moves at idle. See IDLE SPEED--T
adjusting procedure.
S Saw will not idle. See IDLESPEED--T ad-
justing procedure.
Idle Speed--T
Allow engine to idle. If the chain moves, idle
is toofast. If theenginestalls, idle is tooslow.
Adjust speed until engine runs without chain
movement (idle too fast) or stalling (idle too
slow). The idle speed screw is located in the
area above the primer bulb and is labeled T.
S T urn idle speed screw (T) clockwise to in-
crease engine speed.
S T urn idle speed screw (T) counterclock-
wise t o decrease engine speed.

BAR MAINTENANCE
If you r saw cuts to one s ide, ha s to b e forced
through the cut, o r bee n ru n with an improper
amount of bar lubrication it may be necessary
to service your bar. A worn bar will damage
your chain and make c utting d ifficult.
After e ach use, ensure O N/STOP s witch is in
theSTOP position, th enclean all sawdust from
the guide b ar and sprocket ho le.
To maintain guide bar:
S Move ON/ST OP switch to the ST OP posi-
tion.
S Loosen and remove chain brake nuts and
chain brake. Remove bar and chain from
sa w.
S Clean t he oil holes and b ar g roove aftereach

S Burring of guid e bar rails is a normal process
of rail wear . Remove these burrs with a flat
file.
S When ra il to p is uneven, u se a flat file to re-
store square edges an d s ides.
