SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS
REPLACING THE LINE
For unit to operate properly , the cutt ing line
should b e replace d when line becomes worn to
less than 3 inches (7.5 cm ) in length from the
edge o f the line exit t unnels o n each side of the
cutt ing head.
1. Remove and discard worn line before
installing new line.
2. Use only 0.115 inch (3 mm) diameter
Poulan PRO b rand cut lengt h line.
3. Insert one end of the line through the
positioning tunnel.
4. Continue to feed line through tunnel until
line is c entered (leaving equal amounts
on each side). See illustrat ion below .

5. Insert ends of line one at a time through
the line exit tunnels.
6. Pull the line and mak e sure the line is ex-
tended full y thr oug h the tunnels.

7. Corr ectly installed line will be the same
length o n both ends.
BLADE REPLACEMENT
Refer to the ASSEMBLY section for blade re -
placement instruct ions and illustrations.
CARBURETOR IDLE SPEED
ADJUSTMENT
WARNING: Keep others away wh en
making idle sp eed adjustments. The trimmer
head, blade or any optiona l attachm ent will be
spinnin g during most of th is procedure. Wear
your protective equipment and observe all safe-
ty p recaut ions. Aft er making adjustments, th e
trimmer head, blade or any optional attach ment
must not move /spi n at idle speed.
The carburetor has been carefully set at the
factory.Adjustm ents may benecessary ifyou
notice any of the following conditions:
S Engine will not idle wh en the throttle is
released.
S The tr im mer head, blade or optional
attachment moves/spins at idle.
Make adjustments with the unit supported so
the cutt ing attachment is off the ground and
will not make contact with any object. Hold
the unitby handwhile runningandmakingad-
justments. Keep all parts of your body away
from the cutting attachment an d muffler.
To adjust idle speed:
Allow engineto idle.Adjustspeed untilengine
runs without trimmer head, blade or optional
attachment moving or spinning (idle too fast)
or stalling (idle speed t oo slow) .
S Turn idle speed screw clockwise to
increase engine speed if engine stalls or
dies.
S Turn idle speed screw counterclockwiseto
decrease engine speed if trimmer head,
blade or optional attachment moves or
spins at idle.
WARNING: Recheck th e idle speed
after each adjust m ent. The trimmer head,
blade or optional attachment must not move
or spin at idle speed to avoid serious injury to
the operator or others.
