S Saw cuts to one side or at an angle.
S Saw has to be forced th rough the cut.
Tools required:
S 3/16 i n ch ( 4,5 mm) diameter round file and
file holder
S Flat file
S Depth gauge tool
TO SHARPEN CHAIN:
1. Disconnect spark plug.
2. Check chain for proper tension. Adjust
chain tension if necessary. See CHE CK
CHA IN TENSION section.
3. Sharpen cutters.
S To sharpen the cutters, position the
file holderlevel (90˚) sothat itrest son
the top edges of the cutter and depth
gauge.
NOTE: The chain has both left and
right hand cutters.

S Align the30˚ file holder marks parallel
with the bar and to the center of the
chain.

S Shar pen cutters onone side ofthechain
first . File from theinsi de ofeach c utter to
the outside. Then, turn the chain saw
around and re peat the pro cess for the
other side of the chain.
S File on the forward stroke only. Use 2
or 3 strokes per cutting edge.
S Keep allcutters thesam elengthwhen
filing.
S File enough to remove any damageto
cutting edges(side plateand topplate
of cutter).

tions for the chain you are using. Improper hoo k
angle will increase the chance o f kickback
which can result in serious inju ry.
4. Check and lower depth gauges.

S Place gauge tool on cutter .
S If the depth gauge is highe r than the
depth gauge tool , file it level to the top of
the depth gauge tool.
S Maintainroundedfront c ornerof dept h
gauge wi th a flat file.
NOTE: The very top of the depth
gauge should be flatwiththe front half
rounded off wit h a flat file.

CHAIN REPLACEMENT
WARNING: Wear protective gloves
when handling chain. The chain is sharp and
can cut you even when it is not moving.
It is normal for a new chain to st retch during the
first 15 minut es of operation. Y ou should re-
check your chain tension f requently and adjust
the chain tension a s required. See CHAIN TEN-
SION se ct i o n .
Replace the old chain when it becomes worn or
damaged. Use o nly the Low- Kickback rep lace-
ment chain specified in the repair parts list.
TO REPLACE CHAIN:
1. Disconnect spark plug.
2. Remove bar cl a mp nut.
3. Remove bar cl a mp.
4. Turn adjusting screw by hand coun ter-
clockwise until adjusting pin just t ouches
the stop.
5. Slide guide bar behind sprocket until
guide bar stops against sprocket.
6. Remove the old chain.
