OPERATION

ON/STOP SWITCH
The ON/STOP switch is located on the trigger
handle and is used to stop the engi ne. To st op
the engi ne, p ush and release the engine ON/
STOP switch.
PRIMER BULB
The P RIMER BULB removes airfrom thecar-
buretor and fuel lines and fills them with fuel.
This allows you to start theengine with fewer
pulls on the starter rope. Activate the primer
bulb by pressing it and allowing it to return to
its original form.
START LEVER
The START LEVER h elp s to supp ly fue l to the
engine to aid in starting. Act iva te the starting
system by movi ng the start lever to t he START
positi on. D O N OT squeeze th e t hrottle tr igger
until the engine has started and runs. After the
engine starts, allo w t he en gine to wa rm--up 5
seconds, the n fully squeeze the thr ottle trigger
to deacti vate the sta rting system.
COUPLER
The COUPLER enables optional attach-
ments to be installed on the unit.
CHAIN TENSION
It is normal for a new chain to stretch during
first 15 minutes of operation. You should
check your chain tension frequently . See
CHAIN TENSION in the SERVICE AND AD-
JUSTMENTS section.
BEFORE STARTING ENGINE
WARNING: Besure to r ead the fuel
information in the safety rules before you be-
gin. If you do not understand the safety rules,
do not attempt to fuel your unit. Call
1-800-554-6723.
FUELING ENGINE
WARNING: Remove fuel ca p slowly
when refueling.
HELPFUL TIP
Toobtain thecorrect oilmix
ratio, pour 3.2 ounces of
2--cycle synthetic oil into
one gallon of fresh gas.
This engine is certified to operate on
unleaded gasoline. Before operation,
gasoline must be mixed with a good quality
synthetic 2-cycle air-cooled engine oil
designed to b e mixed at a ratio of 40:1.
Poulan/WEED EATER brand synthetic oil is
recommended. Mix gasoline and oil at a ratio
of 40:1. A 40:1ratio is obtained by mixing3.2
fluid ounces (95 m l) of oil with 1 gallon (4
liters) of unleaded gasoline. D O NO T US E
automoti ve oil or m arine oil. These oils will
cause e ngine damage. When m ixing fuel, follow
instr uct ions printed on container. Once oil is
added t o gasoline, shake contai ner m omentarily
to assu re that the fuel is thoroughly mixed.
Always r ead and follow the safe ty rules re lating
to fue l be fore fueling your un it.
CAUTION: Never use stra ight gasolin e in
your unit. This wi ll cause per manent e ngine
damage and void the limited warrant y .
FUEL REQUIREMENTS
This engine requires the use of minimum 87
octane [R+M]/2 clean gasoline.
