SAFETY EQUIPMENT
NOTE:
This section des cribes the hedge-
trimmer’s safety equipment, its function and
howchecks andmaintenancearecarriedout
to ensure that it operates correctly (see
WHATIS WHAT?to locate where thisequip-
ment is positioned on your machine).
WARNING: Never use a machine
with damaged or inoperative safety equip-
ment. Follow the control, maintenance a nd
serviceinstructions describedin this section.
D ON/OFF s witch -- The ON/OFF switch
should be used to stop t he engine.
D Throttle lock--out -- The throttle lock--out
must be pressed before squeezing the
throttle trigger. This feature prevents acci-
dental squeezing of the throttle trigger.
D Blunt entension -- The blunt extensions of
thecutting bladearedesignedtopreventcon-
tact with the blade.
D Hand guard -- The guard is intended to pre-
vent objects f rom bein g thrown t owards t he
operator.
D T ran sportguard--Thetransportguardisde-
signed to cover the cutting blades during
transport and storage.
D Silencer -- The silencer is designed to give
the lowest possible noise level and to direct
the engine’ s exhaust fumes away from the
operator. Theengine’ s exhaustfumesarehot
and can contain sparks which can leadto the
outbreak of f ire.
WARNING: During useand forsome
time after , the silencer is very hot. Do not
touchthesilencerifitishot. Ahotsilencercan
cause serious burns.
D Cutting equipm ent -- The trimmer i s in-
tended for trimming hedges.
CONTROL, MAINTENANCE AND
SERVICE OF THE SAFETY EQUIP -
MENT
WARNING: Allserviceand repairsto
the hedgetrimmer require special training.
This applies especially to the safety equip-
ment. Ifthehedgetrimmerdoes notmeetany
of the controls listed below, you should con-
tact your authorised service dealer .
D ON/OF Fswitch-- Start theengine andmake
sure thatthe engine stops when th eON/OFF
swit ch is mo ve d to t h e OF F po si t i o n .
D Throttle lock--out -- The throttle lock--out
must b e pressed before squeezing the
throttle trigger. This feature prevents acci-
dental squeezing of the throttle trigger.
D Blunt extension -- Ensure that all blunt ex-
tensions are inplace the fulllength o f the cut-
ting blade and are not damaged.
D Han d guard -- Ensure th at the guard is un-
damaged and is not cracked. Replace the
guard if it has been exposed to impact o r is
cracked.
D Vibration damping system -- Check the
vibration damping elem ent r egularly formate-
rial cracks and distortion. Check that the
vibration damping element is securely at-
tached between the engine unit and the
hands.
D Silencer -- N ever use a m achine that has a
damaged or in operative silencer . Check reg-
ularly that the silencer is secure.
D Cutting e quipme nt -- Only use t he cutting
equipment we recommend (see TECHNI-
CAL DA T A). Check the cutting equipment
with r egard to damage and crack formation.
Damaged cutting equipment should always
be replaced.
WARNING: Never use a machine
with damaged or inoperative safety equip-
ment. Thesafety equipmentshouldbemain-
tained as described in this section. If y our
machinedoesnotmeetanyof thesecontrols,
you should contact your authorised service
dealer.
MAINTAIN YOUR UNIT PROPERLY
D Have all maintenance other t han the recom-
mended procedures described in the Instruc-
tion M anual performed by an authorised ser-
vice dealer.
D Disconnect spark plug before performing
maintenance except for carburetor adjust-
ments.
D Do no t use a cutting bla de that i s bent,
warped, cracked, broken, or damaged in any
other way. Have worn or damaged parts re-
placed by your authorised service dealer .
D Use only recommended McCulloch cutting
bladesandreplacementparts; useofany ot h-
er parts m ay void your warranty and cause
damage to your unit.
D Empty f uel tank before storing the unit. Use
upfuelleftincarburetor bystartingengineand
letting it run until it stops.
D Hand carry the unit with the engine stopped
and the muf fler and cutting blade away from
your body .
D Allow engine to cool, e mpty the fuel tank,and
secure theunitbefore storingortransportingit
in a vehicle.
D Do not store t he un it or fuel in a closed a rea
where fuel vapors can reach sparks or an
open flame from hot water heaters, electric
mo t o r s or switch e s, fu r n a ce s, et c.
D Store the unit so the cutting b lade cannot ac-
cidentally cause injury.
D Store in a dry area out of reach of children.
