Replacing the Air Filter
If the engine seems weak or runs unevenly,
the air filter may be clogged. If run with a dirty
air filter, the spark plug can become fouled.
For this reason, it is important to replace the air
filter regularly (see the heading Maintenance
Schedule for the proper service interval).
Check the air cleaner daily or before starting
the engine. Check for build-up of dirt and
debris around the air cleaner system.Keep
this area clean. Also check for loose or
damaged components. Replace all bent
damaged air cleaner components.
Cleaning/replacing the air filter is carried out
as follows:
Briggs and Stratton engine
The air filter is replaced as follows:
1. Pull up the handle on the air filter cover,
unhook and turn towards the engine.
2. Remove the air filter cover.
3. Lift out the air filter cartridge from the fan
housing.
Replace the filter cartridge if it is clogged with
dirt.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Operating the engine with loose damaged
air cleaner components could allow
unfiltered air into the engine, causing
premature wear and failure.

Do not use compressed air to clean the
paper filter.
Filters should not be oiled. They should
be assembled dry.
