STARTING AND STOPPING
Cable Restraint
1. Form loop in mains cable and push the loop
through the slot as illustrated in picture G1.
2. To secure, position loop over the hook and pull
the cable back through the slot as illustrated in
picture G2.
Starting the Lawnmower
The switchbox is provided with a lock off button
(H1) to prevent accidental starting.
1. Press and hold the lock off button on the
switchbox (H1), then squeeze the start/stop lever
towards the upper handle (H2).
2. Continue to squeeze the start/stop lever and
release the lock off button.

Engage the clutch by squeezing the clutch lever
towards the handle.
Adjusting the Clutch Cable - Royal 43ELS only
1. Ensure the cable is not twisted and runs freely
down the handles.
2. Loosen locknut (L1) and screw adjuster (L2) “IN”, in
the direction of the arrow, if clutch does not engage
when the clutch lever is pulled towards the handle.
3. Screw adjuster (L2) “OUT”, in the opposite
direction from the arrow, if the clutch does not
disengage when the clutch lever is free.
4. Tighten locknut (L1) finger tight then 1/4 turn with
a spanner.
Stopping the Lawnmower
1. Release the pressure on the start/stop lever.
MOWING
How to Mow
1. Start mowing from the outside edge of the lawn,
mowing in strips in alternate directions (M).
2. Mow twice a week in the growing season, your
lawn will suffer if more that one third of its length
is cut at one time and this may also result in poor
collection.
Please Note:-
Do not overload your Lawnmower
When mowing in long thick grass a first cut with the
cutting height adjusted to its highest setting, see
Cutting Height, will help reduce motor overload and
will help prevent damage to your lawnmower.
Cutting Height Adjustment

1. Height of cut is adjusted by raising or lowering
the four wheels. Pull the adjustment levers away
from the location slots and move them to the
selected position (N).
2. When cutting long grass the machine cutting
height should be set to its highest setting, i.e. the
blade is furthest away from the grass. Adjust the
height of cut to suit the condition of your lawn, for
long grass use a high cut and vice versa.
• All four wheels should be adjusted to the
same height.

Grass Collection Indicator
IMPORTANT!
The machine must be switched on for the grass
collection indicator to operate.
1. When the indicator is visible - grass is being
collected. (Q1)
2. When the indicator drops outs of sight - it's time
to empty the grassbox. (Q2)
Grassbox Removal
1. Lift the safety flap and remove the grassbox see
R.
Emptying the Grassbox
1. Hold the grassbox as illustrated when emptying.

Using as a mulcher (if applicable)
Switch off your lawnmower, wait until the blade
has stopped rotating and disconnect from the
mains electricity supply.
1. Lift the safety flap. Twist and slide mulching plug
into rear discharge chute (T1).
2. Ensure mulching plug is securely fitted (T2).
3. The mulching plug prevents grass from being
collected by blocking the collection chute on the
underside of the deck.
4. Ensure the safety flap is positioned correctly.
To Produce a Striped Effect on Your Lawn
Applicable to U.K. Only (V)
1. You may find it necessary to try different cutting
heights to find out which setting will achieve the
best stripe on your lawn.
2. the ability of the lawnmower to produce and
effective stripe will depend on the grass type and
condition.
3. Cut all awkward places first before mowing the
main part of your lawn in a regular up and down
sequence.
