MOWINGTIPS
Mowershouldbe properlyleveledfor
bestmowingperformance. See "1"O
LEVEL MOWER HOUSING" inthe
Serviceand Adjustmentssectionof this
manual.
The lefthandsideof mowershouldbe
usedfortrimming.
Drivesothat clippingsare discharged
ontothe area thathasbeen cut. Have
the cutarea tothedghtofthe tractor.
Thiswillresultin a more even distribu-
tionofclippingsand more uniform
cutting.
When mowinglargeareas, startby
turningtothe rightso thatclippingswill
dischargeaway fromshrubs,fences,
driveways,etc. Afterone ortwo
rounds,mow in the oppositedirection
makinglefthandturnsuntilfinished.
Ifgrassisextremelytall,itshouldbe
mowedtwiceto reduceload and
possiblefire hazardfrom driedclip-
pings. Make firstcutrelativelyhigh;the
secondto the desiredheight.
Do notmow grasswhen itiswet. Wet
grasswillplug mowerand leave
undesirableclumps. Allowgrassto dry
before mowing.
Always operate engine at full throttle
when mowing to assurebettermowing
performanceand properdischargeof
material. Regulategroundspeed by
selectinga lowenoughgear to givethe
mowercuttingperformanceas well as
the qualityof cutdesired.
Whenoperatingattachments, selecta
groundspeed thatwillsuittheterrain
and give bestperformanceof the
attachmentbeing used.

MULCHING MOWINGTIPS
IMPORTANT: Forbestperformance,
keep mowerhousingfree of built-up
grassand trash. Cleanaftereachuse.
The specialmulchingbladewillrecut
the grassclippingsmanytimesand
reducethem insize sothatas theyfall
ontothe lawnthey willdisperse intothe
grassandnot be noticed.Also,the
mulchedgrass willbiodegradequickly
to providenutrientsforthe lawn.
Alwaysmulchwith yourhighestengine
(blade)speed as thiswillprovidethe
bestrecuttingactionof theblades.
Avoidcuttingyourlawnwhen itiswet.
Wet grasstendsto formclumpsand
interfereswiththe mulchingaction.
The besttimeto mow yourlawnisthe
eadyafternoon. Atthistimethe grass
hasdriedand the newlycutarea will
notbe exposedto the directsun.
Forbestresults,adjustthe mower
cuttingheightso thatthe mowercutsoff
onlythetop one-thirdof thegrass
blades.For extremelyheavy mulching,
reduceyourwidthof cuton eachpass
and mow slowly.
Certaintypesof grassand grass
conditionsmay requirethat an area be
mulcheda secondtimeto completely
hidethe clippings.When doinga
secondcut, mow acrossor perpendicu-
lartothefirstcutpath.
Changeyourcuttingpatternfromweek
toweek. Mownorthto southoneweek
thenchangeto eastto westthe next
week. Thiswillhelppreventmatting
and grainingofthe lawn.
