in barefeet, sandals,slipperyorlight weight(e.g.canvas)shoes.
Do notputhandsor feetnearrotatingpartsor undercuttingdeck.
Contactwithbladecan amputatehandsandfeet.
A missingordamageddischargechutecancausebladecontact
orthrownobjectinjuries.
Manyinjuriesoccuras a resultof themowerbeingpulledoverthe
footduringa fallcausedby slippingor tripping.Donot holdonto
the mowerif youarefalling;releasethe handleimmediately.
Neverpullthe mowerbacktowardyouwhileyouarewalking.If
youmust backthemowerawayfroma wallorobstructionfirst
lookdownand behindto avoidtrippingandthenfollowthese
steps:
Stepbackfrommowerto fullyextendyour arms.
Besureyou arewellbalancedwithsurefooting.
Pullthe mowerbackslowly,nomorethan halfwaytowardyou.
Repeatthesestepsasneeded.
Do notoperatethemowerwhileunderthe influenceof alcoholor
drugs.
Stayalert -- Watchwhatyouaredoing.Usecommonsense.Do
not operatelawnmowerwhenyouaretired.
Themotor/bladecontrolhandleisa safetydevice.Neverattempt
to bypassitsoperation.Doingsomakesthe safetydevice
inoperativeand mayresultinpersonalinjury throughcontact
withthe rotatingblade.Themotor/bladecontrolhandlemust
operateeasilyinbothdirectionsandautomaticallyreturnto the
disengagedpositionwhenreleased.
Neveroperatethe mowerinthe rainor indampor wetgrass.
Alwaysbesureof yourfooting. Aslip andfallcancauseserious
personalinjury.If youfeelyouarelosingyourfooting,releasethe
motor/bladecontrolhandleimmediatelyandthe bladewillstop
rotatingwithinthreeseconds.
Mowonly indaylightor goodartificiallight.Walk,neverrun.
Stopthemotor/bladewhencrossinggraveldrives,walksor roads.
If theequipmentshouldstartto vibrateabnormally,stopthe
engineandcheckimmediatelyforthe cause.Vibrationisgener-
ally awarningof trouble.
Shutthe motoroff andwaituntilthe bladecomestoa complete
stopbeforeremovingthegrasscatcheror uncloggingthechute.
Thecuttingbladecontinuesto rotatefora few secondsafterthe
motoris shutoff. Neverplaceanypartof thebodyin the blade
areauntilyouare surethe bladehas stoppedrotating.
Neveroperatemowerwithoutpropertrail shield,discharge
chute,grasscatcher,motor/bladecontrolhandleorother safety
protectivedevicesin placeandworking.Neveroperatemower
withdamagedsafetydevices.Failureto do so,can resultin
personalinjury.
GroundFaultCircuitInterrupter(GFCI)protectionshouldbe
providedon thecircuit(s)oroutlet(s)to beusedfor thelawn
mower.Receptaclesareavailablehavingbuilt-inGFCIprotection
and maybe usedforthis measureof safety.
To preventelectricshockuseonly witha UL listedextension
cord setsuitableforoutdooruse,suchas TypeSW-A,SOW-A,

ExtensionCord--Make sureyour extensioncordsetis in good
conditionandis heavyenoughto carrythecurrentloadyourlawn
mowerwill draw.If indoubt,usethe nextheaviergaugecord.The
smallerthe gaugenumber,the heavierthecord.Anundersized
cord willcauseadrop inlinevoltageresultinginlossof powerand
overheating.

polarizedplug(onebladeis widerthantheother)andwill require
the useof a polarizedextensioncord.Themowerplugwillonly
fit into thepolarizedextensioncordoneway.Iftheplugdoesnot
fit fullyintothe extensioncord,reversethe plug.Ifthe plugstill
does notfit, obtaina correctpolarizedextensioncord.A polarized
extensioncordwill requiretheuseof a polarizedwalloutlet.This
plugwill fit intothe polarizedoutletonlyoneway.Iftheplugdoes
notfit fullyintothe walloutlet,reversethe plug.Ifthe plugstill
does notfit, contacta qualifiedelectricianto installthe proper
wall outlet.Do notchangetheequipmentplug,extensioncord
receptacle,or extensioncord pluginany way.
Ifextensioncordis damagedinany mannerduringuse,discon-
nectextensioncordfromhousereceptaclebeforeunplugging
